hey! i am new to this, but i am willing to learn!
im just not sure what colour eyeshadows to buy! i have blue eyes, and find that purple eyeshadows dont look good, but brown shadows do. is there some sort of code that certain eye colours can go by?

Not really a code, but usually purples/plums look better with green or hazel eyes..brown eyes can wear just about anything..blue..neutrals/roses or greens work..but it really is a trial and error...I have seen blues and purples look great with blue eyes...and also if you're warm or cool toned...

Colours that contrast your eyes will make the colour stand out and make your eyes pop more - therefore brown is good with blue (orange is the opposite colour, thus will contrast the most), and purple, while it can look good, won't highlight your eyes as much. Different colours may also bring out different tones in your eyes - for example a green shadow may highlight hints of green or something. Just experiment, because all eyes are so different!

I'd say most brown colours! Although it's said not use the same colour as your eyes because it will dull them down. I have blue eyes....i never wear just one colour on it's own though.

I have blue eyes, and the colors that make them stand out most are oranges/coppers, certain shades of pink and even some blues. I have a problem with alot of purples, but I think that has more to do with my skin tone rather than eye color. HTH!

I have blue/green eyes so purple looks good on me. I have a medium skin tone, but I love browns and oranges with my eyes also.

One magazine that was suggesting eyeshadow colors based it off of hair and skin tone. If you had light hair and fair skin then you wore like beigey gold colors. It was in the INSTYLE Makeover issue

I have blue eyes. Every counter I have went to has told me that plums, greens and blues would look best with my eyes. Personally I think that I prefer brown and peach shades though.

I've also always heard that contrasting colors look best, and I agree! I have blue-grey eyes, and my favorite colors are all contrasting colors -- browns, bronzes, and peaches are the best! Sometimes I wear purples and greens for a change, but they're definitely not my best colors.

In the articles I've read about cool/warm tones, they always say if you have cool skin you should wear cool e/s and vice versa. I don't agree with that though, because they always recommend colors like silvers, blues, and purples for my very cool skin -- and I think most of those colors look terrible on me!

Plus, I've noticed that warm e/s colors (especially bronzes) tend to warm up my face a little bit, so that is another added bonus! However, warm lip and cheek colors tend to just look orange on me, so I like to stick with cool and neutrals for the lips and cheeks

Now that surprises me, because every article I've read says you should wear contrasting colors (browns, etc)! Except for the articles that focus on skintone instead of eyecolor as I mentioned above!

That's what I always say to the people that tell me that. They always just disagree and say that blue will make blue eyes stand out. I do not own and will probably never own a blue eye shadow though lol.

Well, the closest thing I have to blue e/s is a turquoise eyeliner, and when I wear it (with neutral or pastel shadows), it makes my eyes look more grey in comparison, because the eyeliner is so much brighter in comparison! I get a similar effect from green and purple e/s (both brights and dull grey-purples), because the color just overwhelms my eyes and makes them look more grey! But contrasting colors make my eyes look more blue in comparison!

I'd certainly like to know if there was a 'code' for e/s colours too! I'm an Asian so I have brown eyes and I've found greens to look the best, not just on me but on other brown-eyed ladies. Brown itself don't look too bad too actually. Blues and pinks don't work on me.

I love this topic and am in the process of trying to find eye shadow colors that suit me. What I've discovered is that not only do the colors need to look good with your eyes but they also look best when they suit your skin tone.
Oh and opposite colors pop when side by side.

I have blue eyes and I wear whatever colors I want. Orange is the complimentary color to blue on the color wheel, although purple will look good too since it's a secondary color made from blue. I say wear what you want to wear! That's one area of makeup I don't believe does/should have a set rule

oranges and browns will look good. also, i say forget the rule about not using shadows of the same color as your eyes..blue eyeliner makes them stand out..blue eyeshadow has a pretty contrast too! my best advice is to experiment with colors and find what works best for you. i have blue green eyes and i play up the green by wearing pink/purple, or the blue by wearing bronzes.
