Scott Kalitta dies in Funny Car crash

Sunday, Jun 22, 2008 - 12:07 AM Updated: 12:50 AM ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Scott Kalitta died Saturday when his Funny Car burst into flames and crashed at the end of the track during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. He was 46. The NHRA said Mr. Kalitta - the 1994 and 1995 Top Fuel season champion who had 18 career victories, 17 in Top Fuel and one in Funny Car - was taken to the Old Bridge division of Raritan Bay Medical Center, where he died a short time later. Mr. Kalitta's Toyota Solara was traveling at about 300 mph when it burst into flames Source - Scott Kalitta dies in Funny Car crash - News - inRich.com   I'm truly sadened by by drag racings loss... The Kalitta family goes way back... I grew up near Ypsi and use to watch his father Connie race.... Sooo sad....

We watched it yesterday- as it was happening. very sad- they stopped the races, of course, but they still have to race today.

I saw him year before last in Columbus.... He and his dad Connie and cousin Doug.... Connie always had this little foo foo dog with him... lol I'm still in shock.....

I thought that this thread's title was implying that the crash was humorous. Woops. :S
That's a shame what happened. I hope the family are coping OK.
