CEO of Toy Manufacturer Commits Suicide After Recall

The CEO of Lee Der Industrial Company, Zhang Shuhong, committed suicide overt he weekend after nearly one million toys manufactured by the Chinese company were recalled due to lead content in paint.

Fisher-Price had to recall 967,000 of their Big Bird, Elmo, Diego and Dora toys after it was discovered that the lead content used in painting the toys was unsafe for children. Lee Der was believed to have acquired the paint from a close friend.

Zhang was found on Saturday. According to reports the co-owner of Lee Der hanged himself in disgrace.

yeah we were talking about this in class and the high incidence of suicide in Asia.

Its a culture thing. Like Seppuku / Hara Kiri

Suicide isnt a means of escape of problems in Asia but is seen as either an honorable way to die (japanese) or to reclaim whatever honor was lost - which is I believe the case with this one.
