TOKYO - A homeless woman who sneaked into a man's house and lived undetected in his closet for a year was arrested in Japan after he became suspicious when food mysteriously began disappearing.

Police found the 58-year-old woman Thursday hiding in the top compartment of the man's closet and arrested her for trespassing, police spokesman Hiroki Itakura from southern Kasuya town said Friday.

The resident of the home installed security cameras that transmitted images to his mobile phone after becoming puzzled by food disappearing from his kitchen over the past several months.

One of the cameras captured someone moving inside his home Thursday after he had left, and he called police believing it was a burglar. However, when they arrived they found the door locked and all windows closed.

"We searched the house ... checking everywhere someone could possibly hide," Itakura said. "When we slid open the shelf closet, there she was, nervously curled up on her side."

The woman told police she had no place to live and first sneaked into the man's house about a year ago when he left it unlocked.

She had moved a mattress into the small closet space and even took showers, Itakura said, calling the woman "neat and clean."

Yeah there are these people on youtube who do that. They sneak into peoples homes and live there undetected. it is SO creepy.

Poor lady. However, it is creepy. How the heck does someone get away with that for a whole year and the homeowner has no idea? How'd she get the small matress in there as well lol? She's gotta be a ninja.

i was totally thinking about the grudge too. i couldn't do it. i'd be scared out of my mind living in somebody's closet like that.

haha, this just reinforces my theory that men don't have enough clothes. He obviously only had one or two items that he regularly wears that stay OUTSIDE the closet - maybe one outfit he wears while the other is in the wash?

HOW ELSE could she be living in his closet while he had no idea??

that sounds just like some kind of movie. But he should just say what the heck and let her move in and be his room mate. that is if she can find a job and if he isn't too creeped out.

I feel bad for that lady, having no alternative but to break into someones house.

I also feel bad for the man. I would be terrified at the thought of some one in my house where I keep my private belongings, money etc. She was stealing his food and using his utilities, so I can understand him charging her.
