I read this article this morning and was shocked to see it happened so close to home!! Here is where the SUV was found, and my apartment is right near Brownsline & Lake Shore . . . I pass near that area to get to work every day and my hubby went to high school just a block away on Valermo Drive.
Victims found in parked SUV - with driver's seat empty July 20, 2008 Toronto Police are at the scene of a triple murder after three men were found dead in a Nissan Pathfinder early this morning in the city's west end. When police arrived this morning near Lunness Rd. in the Browns Line and Lake Shore Blvd. W. area at around 3 a.m., Det.-Sgt. Dean Burks said three bodies where found inside a gold-colored SUV. Burks said the bullet-riddled vehicle and its victims were likely driven to the scene from another part of the city. None of the homicide victims was in the driver's seat, he said. Police said the men died of gunshot wounds and all three were ``suffering from trauma” and were pronounced dead at the scene. Burks said the shooting happened from outside the car and a number of bullet holes pierced the vehicle. There were no eyewitnesses and no one in the neighborhood heard shots fired. Police have not been able to identify the young men. “We have information that there was another person in the vehicle and we’re making efforts to locate that individual,” said Burks. Mary Anne Sebastian said she looked out her window this morning and saw the SUV parked right in front of her house. It was covered in an orange tarp, drenched in the pouring rain, and was surrounded by three ambulances and busy police officers. Her home is still taped off but police haven’t come to speak with her, she said. Sebastian says she and her husband have lived in the area for 14 years and have never seen anything like this. "It’s a very quiet area, with lots of seniors and lots of new families," she said. "We’ve never had a problem here before." Sebastian’s neighbour Jessica Rosus said she was woken early this morning by the sound of sirens. She said she and her family are unable to leave their house while police search for evidence. "We've never seen anything like this," Rosus said. "It's a really quiet neighbourhood." Rosus, a high school student, described the area as a quiet, middle-class, residential community. The Alderwood Memorial Park sits just behind houses across the street from the shooting, where local kids spend their days playing the park, she said. This case brings the number of murders this week to six and caps off a bloody few days in the city. William Ross Magill, 64, was stabbed to death on Monday, an unidentified 17-year-old was shot in the east end on Thursday, and Michael Watson, 28, was shot at an east end club early Saturday morning. There were also three non-fatal shootings this week that wounded another four people. These three victims brings the number of homicides this year in Toronto to 35 compared to 41 at the same time last year. SOURCE

Sounds like another drug deal gone bad.
Interesting to know if the driver had set this situation up - or at least was in on it.

Re: Just minutes away: Toronto police called to triple murder
Yeah, i hate it when those things are right around the corner!! A lady went missing last weekend and was found dead 3 miles from her home a couple days later.....not too far from where I live! And a little over a year ago a lady was killed in her home just down the street from me...
There has been a sheriff sitting on one of the side streets just up the road daily since it all happened last weekend... People are crazy!...have to be careful!! |
