Shark kills surfer off Mexico's west coast
A shark attack off Mexico's Pacific coast has left a 21-year-old surfer dead.
Osvaldo Mata Valdovinos, was attacked Friday when surfing off Pantla beach, near Ixtapa. The shark bit off his left hand and broke one of his legs. Mexican authorities say the attack happened 10 kilometres from a beach where an American was killed by a shark last month. Twenty-four-year-old Adrian Ruiz of San Francisco died after he was bitten by a shark off a nearby beach. Mexican authorities responded by using baited hooks to capture sharks in the area the next day. Environmentalists condemned Mexico's approach. They have asked authorities to post signs in the area's beaches warning surfers and swimmers about sharks, and to refrain from killing the animals. Earlier in May, an Australian was attacked by a shark off his country's west coast. There are about 50-70 shark attacks a year worldwide on average but only five to 15 of those attacked are killed. In comparison, lightning strikes kill about 41 people a year in just the United States. Source- CTV.ca |

Re: Shark kills surfer off Mexico's west coast
So you have a better chance of getting struck by lightening than getting killed by a shark? Amazing.
