Sewing Machine

I have done some light sewing when i was younger and wanted to get back into it and hopefully learn to make clothes just as a hobby. Can anyone recommed a good sewing machine to learn on. I have been looking for a basic mackine mechanical or computerised to learn on and grow with. Thanks

Re: Sewing Machine

I don't know anything about sewing machines personally but here's a link that might be helpful...

Re: Sewing Machine

Kenmore is the only way to go in my opinion for a home machine. They're still made with metal parts (much better than the cheap plastic parts other companies use). One thing I caution, is that since Sears is struggling with their buyout of K-Mart, check them out first (when companies struggle with "mergers & acquisitions", their private-label brands (Kenmore is a private label of Sears) tend to go down-hill).

Thanks for the info Samantha, and thanks Lisa for the link! I'd love to start sewing one day myself.

Re: Sewing Machine

Wal mart carries some for around $100. I personally like the Husky machines but they are a little more. If you're not sure yet, get a cheap one at wal mart and start sewing, that way you have an idea of what you like and little knowledge when you're ready to upgrade to a nicer machine. When I was in high school I bought a machine from wal mart that lasted me about 4 years, after that I decided to get a Husky, but my wal mart machine still worked fine!

Re: Sewing Machine

i think i found the one i want, i really like the new huskystars but the price is a bit much for my first machine, so im going to get a white machine with the same features for half the price. Also it a little more advanced but i feel its something i can grow with

Re: Sewing Machine

Not sure about the machine but one thing to consider is that some independant shops will offer you a free tutorial on the machine when you buy it from them and there's even a shop near me that gives free 1 hour help sessions throughout the first year after purchase to help you learn how to sew and get acomplished with your machine.
