Valentine's Day Gift - now its not equal
Hi Ladies,
Just hoping to get a little feedback here on what I should do. I thought my wife and I had an agreement. We had just gone on a ski vacation last wee and spent a fair amount of money on the lifts, great dining etc and said we would keep Valentines Day low key. So i had gotten the card, and had arranged for flowers to be delivered to work (she LOVES that) and I will make dinner later on.
The problem is that all of a sudden she surprises me this morning with a great gift. She got me one of those digital picture frames that is absolutely incredible. This one is large 10" (800x600), so crisp pictures, plays music and videos too, and can display 4 pictures at the same time fading in and out. In other words it is awesome! Now I love the gift and cant even think about returning it cause that would be a huge insult. So whats the best thing for me to do? Should i run out and get something (not sure what) or do something else. I am interested in what you ladies think about this.
hey Happy Valentines Day to all you too.

Re: Valentine's Day Gift - now its not equal
I would just keep it. Sometimes that will happen with my fiance. We'll agree on a low key gift, and he'll splurge, and I won't. Then there are the times when he'll ask for something really expensive ($6,000 dirtbike, a $1,000 statue ot the Lord of Darkness from the movie Legend), and I'll get a couple DVD's from him.
I think eventually it all evens out. Really it's the thought that counts.
So think of it this way.....spend a little more on her birthday gift or Christmas gift. Or get her a random gift when she won't expect it for no occasion whatsoever.
I'd be perfectly happy with what you did for your wife if I were her.

Re: Valentine's Day Gift - now its not equal
Thank you ladies! Now do you want to hear the rest of the story? I followed your advice on this one and it paid off big time.
I am working from home today so i went out to the florist (cause on Valentines Day if you didn't get set up delivery like a week ago its not going to happen!) and picked out carnations (her favorite) and had gotten a little balloon the other day to customize the arrangement a little. I brought it over to the school where she works thinking I would drop it off at the front office. Instead they made me drop it off in person. So next thing you know I am walking into the classroom and you have the entire class of 3rd graders cheering! It was kind of embarrassing but really cool too!
We adjusted our plans for later while i was there. I am going to get some takeout for our kids and we are going out for a dinner alone later... This is shaping up to be a very nice Valentine's Day.

I got a 2 G media card for it and now it has like 1500 pictures with relatives, our lives when we were little, our kids, vacations etc. i thinking we spent at least an hour yesterday just watching it. we have a bunch of loved ones who've past and that is a little sad , but it is really cool having all theses images swirl by. and no darla didn't make the frame..

Re: Valentine's Day Gift - now its not equal
I guess that depends on when she got the present. Before the agreement, or after? I always buy my presents months and months in advance, so you never know.
Anyways, I think the card, flowers, and dinner is fine. Sorry, so late.
Edit: What did you end up doing?

The frame is from Digital Decor and i can't find a web site for them or anything. The frame is made in China (so what else is new) and i like it!
As for when we made that agreement I guess it was right after our anniversary (25y) and we originally wanted to do it up big (go on a cruise), but we couldn't swing it sow we are postponing that & we were doing a separate fund (cruise fund) and anniversary was supposed to be low key(we did go out for real nice dinner at a fancy Greek restaurant) . Well i sort of messed up a little cause she had been complaining that she was always cold at the classroom she was in so i went out that night and bought her some tops.
You know its funny though because even though i got big points from the other teachers on this one, two years ago i gave her this special pillow to her for her birthday (it wasn't like a garden variety pillow) and to this day they still give me grief about the pillow. I could tell my wife wasn't too thrilled either or how would all of them have known? <sigh>
thanks for all the great advice.
