Re: July Parent Check-In!
Mav went to his two year well check visit yesterday, and next week we have to go see an allergy specialist. I guess it's not normal for a baby his age to go through this. Allergies, yes- life threatening reactions- no.
Also, my concerns towards his speech patterns were validated- Maverick has to go see a speech therapist. They said he should have a vocabulary of 50 words and he is definitely below that.
But they don't think that it's because he's not smart, it's that he just doesn't want to talk. But I think he's closer, because he's jibber jabbering more than often.
Oh - he totally freaked at the doctor's... I think its because of the ER, he's a bit traumatized.

Re: July Parent Check-In!
Speech therapist already? I hope they tell you something that will ease your mind. When Alana was younger her speech was a little behind and we were afraid it was from the stroke, but she caught up quickly. She also still gets freaked out by dr.'s, a few too many bad experiences. Kids have amazing memories. I also hope they can get him straightened out at the allergy specialist. At least you're able to catch whatever the problem is young. Good luck!

Re: July Parent Check-In!
Thanks Kat...
It's a bit too much for me when I think about it too much. I am hoping we can figure out his allergies too.
They said that, like all drugs, the body becomes tolerant to drugs used often, and that there may be a time that the Epi Pen will no longer be able to do its job if Maverick continues to have these type of allergic reactions.
My mom said that both my brother and I were slow to speak and we are normal adults now, and were normal kids as well... so who knows.

Re: July Parent Check-In!
When their problems start bombarding you, you just have to think about one thing at a time. Believe me, I have experience! When Alana was a couple of days old, she couldn't breathe on her own, swallow on her own, and she was on 3 different anti-seizure meds to make sure the seizures didn't come back. After going through that for a few days I finally realized that I couldn't worry about it all at once.
You never know, maybe he's going through all of this now so he'll be a healthy child!

Re: July Parent Check-In!
My youngest daughter has a speech delay. I remember asking the Dr about it when she was Maverick's age and he blamed her delay on not being able to get a word in with her extremely talkative older sister. She does get speech therapy and her teacher this year kept going on about how smart she is. What can I say she takes after her mom.
I hope you can get some answers and get started on some sort of allergy treatment. That would really scare me.

Re: July Parent Check-In!
Both kids are home for the summer.... the daughter is working as an intern at one of our subsideraries... The son who just raduated HS, is the salad bar guy at a local resturant... So there's always one going here and the other one going there... and so far we have gone no where... lol Add in a 15 year old dalmation and a kitty... 2 months left till they both go off to college and it will be very quiet around here... sigh....

Re: July Parent Check-In!
chayden's baptizmal is july 27th.
his 2nd birthday is august 23rd. i'm making birthday invites this weekend. either teletubbies or spongebob.
chayden loves summer. he's into swimming, swinging, slides, sand, running like a soccer player, etc. he's very active.
his vacabulary is sprouting every day. it consists of about 200 words.
he is still very sweet and caring. and we haven't hit the terrible twos' yet. i thought we were starting because he was being soo cranky a few weeks ago, but i was wrong. he was getting sick and to top that off, not sleeping his usual hours. so yea. so, pictures from the other day:
