Question Seborrheic Dermatitis

My 2 month old has this disease. I've taken her to the pediatrician who's recommended a 'steroidal' medication. It works wonders, however, there are days/nights when she itches her little face. I feel so helpless because I feel there's nothing else I can use to calm the itching sensation only because she's so tiny. The only thing I'm assuming I should be using is a lotion to possibly moisturize her skin. Don't know if it'll help with the bothersome though. If any of your children have had this and found a way to at least sooth/calm the irritation I'd love to hear what you'll recommend.

She goes to the Dr. on Tuesday and I'll ask him what he prefers but until then any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Seborrheic Dermatitis

Aww, poor little thing.
I don't have any kids but my baby cousin has all sorts of skin issues and my aunt swears by Sudocrem. I'm not sure how well it would work on Seborrheic Dermatitis but it could help a bit 'cos it's a healing cream and works on bed sores and eczema and stuff.
Hope all goes well at the doctors

Re: Seborrheic Dermatitis

the poor thing. Since this is a 2 mo old infant I don't think it would be wise to take advice from strangers. I highly recommend listening to your drs. on this. I wouldn't put anything on an infant that wasn't recommended by a doctor. Good luck.

Re: Seborrheic Dermatitis

I have this disease and i unfortunately pass it down to my son who is now 17 months. the pediatrician recommended cortisone 2.5% for him and he works wonders. Also the great thing is to protect his skin and vaseline works wonders.I apply it every day and night over all over his body and apply the prescription cream on the itchy and scaling spots. It was recommended by my pediatrician so i decided to use it too Lol
I have tried it for myself at night on my face just a tab .I don't get any flaking and redness.Especially winter is the hardest on our skin therefore you need to protect it.I never thought vaseline would work but it does !!!!! You still need a steriod cream but for everyday application vaseline will help.
Anyways i am going to see a dermatologist but the appointment is all the way in December !!!!.I would like to see if there is something better for my son and I.
I used to get Clobex for my scalp. It worked great. Best product but so expensive so i need another alternative.
There is no cure for this skin disorder. You have to be consistent with the creams application.Hopefully they will find a cure some days.
Hope this helps.Take care
Steph

Re: Seborrheic Dermatitis

Lapuce: Thanks so much. It was very informative and I think Vaseline would be a great product to apply to her gentle skin. Never thought about that, so thanks! Oh and yes, I too hope they find a cure soon because it's a terrible disorder
