AHA to fight acne

I've heard alot of good comments on acne.org about AHAs helping with acne. Anyone tried it yet?

Re: AHA to fight acne

AHAs and BHAs are chemical exfoliants that can be used as part of a healthy skin care regime. If one has oily skin, BHAs can actually be better.

If one has acne, I think they would need benzoil peroxide or another medication specific designed to fight acne. A prescription medication called Neo Medrol is thing only one that works for me.

Re: AHA to fight acne

I've never had much luck using any of the acidic acne products like AHAs.

If you do use them, remember to neutralize the acid afterwards with a baking soda & water mixture. Also wear sunblock because your skin will be more sensitive afterwards.

I think they do a good job...I am currently using Beyond Belief ABH pore refining scrub...I got it at sally's. It's pretty good and I actually want to try more of their line.

Re: AHA to fight acne

AHA's definitely help with removing scars. I don't know how effective they are with combatting acne but reading the above sounds like they are.

Re: AHA to fight acne

AHAs are water soluble, but BHAs are lipid soluble. AHAs exfoliate the skin's surface, while BHAs can penetrate into your pores (hence better for acne).
You also have to pay attention to pH levels too. AHAs and BHAs are most effective with lower pH levels (I've heard under a pH of 4)...plus you should wait 20 to 30 minutes (after AHA or BHA) before applying other products to allow it to go to work and do it's thang!

Re: AHA to fight acne

I once used a complete AHA set, I don't think it quite helped with my blemishes, it just made my face all red and flaky, it was pretty bad, people kept asking me what happened to my face! I'm now using Differin, a retinol. Its still too early to tell if its working though.
