Differin!

So, I have been using Differin 0.1% gel on and off since March. I am post Accutane and my derm recommended it to stay clear. Well, I will use it consistently every other day for periods of 2 weeks but will have to stop when my acne worsens. I try to bite the bullet and keep going but my skin becomes too flakey and my spots never go away! It seems to exacerbate any smaller spots I have, making them redder and deeper, and it seems to increase my number of clogged pores overall. I tend to take a break when this occurs and my skin improves. I continue to go through this cycle without being able to achieve completely clear skin. Does anyone else have an insight into Differin, I am curious!

Re: Differin!

I've used Differin at one time 3 years back and recently re-started again, but am not on it long enough to tell the exact results of it. But yes, Differin does make acne/blemishes worse before it becomes better. My skin type is such that I have alot of small blemishes on my face but not big ones so the impact of Differin on me would not be as bad as on a person more prone to larger blemishes, which I conclude to be in your case since you mentioned you were on Accutune. You might want to feedback to your derm if you really think Differin is making your skin worse than better. Btw, is the girl in the avater you? She looks to have great skin!

Re: Differin!

What accutane dosage were you taking and for how long?

I used Differin for a long time before going on accutane and I always found that it just irritated my face and made the skin peel. But that was my experience with most topical medications.

Was your skin clearer after accutane but before the Differin?

If I were you, I'd try not using the Differin for awhile and just be gentle to your face.

Since accutane, I've only had to use a gentle face wash like cetaphil, an spf 15 daily lotion, and a light night time cream to keep my skin clear.
