Alima Rave
Got more samples from Alima and am very impressed. I had previously ordered samples many months ago(olives, neutrals and warms) and found a match (olive-0). The website has been revamped and is very attractive, easy to navigate. I decided to give it another go and ordered some foundations (golds and beiges) and lipglosses.
The packaging is now very eco-friendly. everything is biodegradable except of course for the plastic sample containers. Instead of bubble wrap, everythng was protected inside the box by this paper meshlike wrapper. Then the samples were in a brown paper baggie folded over with an Alima sticker. Simple but very appealing More importantly and surprisingly I love the Beige foundies! I have hardly ever been able to wear any companies' version of beige because they are usually way too orange or pink. I had recently tried Signature Minerals Beige 2.3 and 5.3 and liked how they looked, so decided to take chance and try Alima's Beige. Alima's are a nice creamy color with just the right amount of yellow for me. I am very happy with it and will wear it all day to see how it holds up and if it turns color. It is matte without being flat or cadaver-like. The sample sizes of foundation are extremely generous and are only 1.50!!! The lipglosses are very nice. I orderd all the colors ( only $1.00 for samples). Like most natural lippes I don't anticipate they will have great staying power but I'd rather put up with reapplying than wearing something with a ton of chemicals. I will definitely be ordering again!! Although the website states the sample foundations have 1/4 tsp, enough for one week, I received way more, they were brimming to the top. Forgot to mention the turn around time. Under a week!! Last edited by easterdawn : 04-06-2008 at 09:27 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: Alima Rave
^Hmm, I've had good experiences with Alima eyeshadows, and their shade selection is beautiful - virtually foolproof, at least for fair/medium toned skin. Alima does not have any flashy party shades, but I love the collection for everyday use. They are not the most pigmented ones, but that makes them just easy to use in those busy mornings. Staying power is quite usual for mineral shadows, average at it's best, but considerably better when foiled or used over a base.
I really like Alima foundation, too. The cover is very buildable, I actually don't need separate concealer at all. The surface diffuses light beautifully and disquises imperfections and lines. I would definitely recommend this as one to try for mature skin. Only drawback for me is that there is no perfect shade for me. I'm Scandinavian with deep blue eyes, light ash brown hair and surprisingly my skin has subtle olive undertone with a bit ashy overcast. I've found my best shade match from Meow (Ocicat-family), but I prefer the creamy non sparckling finish of Alima - so now I try to mix some shades to get the perfect match. Olive 1 is very close, but it does not have that cool toned, slightly ashy cast that Meow Ocicat has. Warm 2 is close too - Alimas warms have more yellow than peach. My overall verdict for Alima: definitely give it a try! |

Re: Alima Rave
I was gonna try this as my introduction to mmu and got edm instead for the freebie samples. Ive been wanting to sample Alima's stuff for awhile now though. How are their matte formulas?

Re: Alima Rave
i find the foundation very matte. I use the primer alone some days when I dont feel like wearing makeup and it does a great job of making the skin look flawless. other days, I will use their foundation over the primer and it is a great combination. The primer really does seem to prevent access oil production.

Re: Alima Rave
In my opinion the finish is not completely matte, but sort of... ...creamy. Less powdery than Meow foundations but not nearly as dewy as Everyday Minerals Original Glo.
