Anyone actually mixed their mmu with primer?

Hi. New here. My problem is covering a purplish shiny raised lesion, some sort of sun damage, just below the dark circle of one eye. Already saw a doctor about it a few years ago back when I had good insurance (if you can call an HMO good) and she refused to refer me to someone for removal and when I cried about how hideous it was she offhandedly said "oh, just dab some makeup on it". I have been "dabbing" different kinds of makeup on it for years to the tune of much $$$$ It is a slick slippery purple thing about the diameter of a pencil eraser although not that high, thank goodness.

I got into mmu a few months ago and have recently found my HG: Signature's 2.3. But alas, it won't stick to/cover this thing. I have only found one cosmetic substance in the universe that will stick to it well, Clinique's powder foundation. I would go bankrupt trying to find a color match, however. And I much prefer to stick with mmu (no pun intended). The runner up in sticking to this thing is L'oreal bare naturale concealer which is what I am doing now. Thank goodness their concealer doesn't have BO in it!

Recently picked up Monistat gel to "prime" the thing and that has helped the concealer to stick a bit better - almost a whole workday though color is a bit off and if I try to put mmu over it, everything comes off of it. I was thinking of trying and mixing my mmu with a bit of monistat to make a cover...anybody try that?

Problem is getting the surface of this thing tacky I guess because no kind of concealer, creme, liquid or powder or anything but that Clinique will adhere.

If you have any ideas or have tried mixing mmu with monistat or another primer, please let me know! thanks

Re: Anyone actually mixed their mmu with primer?

I use clinique pore minimiser serum and mix that in with my mmu. For me personally, it works really well! I have a few broken capillaries on my face and some scarring from a bad fall, and it does the trick really well! I dab it on the places that it's needed, blend out the edges really well, and then just dust on my MMU as usual. Seems to stay put the whole day. I also finish off with a light spray of water to set my MMU.

I only cover up completely if I want to go for a flawless look, normally I just do my usual MMU routine.

Re: Anyone actually mixed their mmu with primer?

TY, Mimosa. I am going to see if I can find the ingredients of the Clinique serum and if they are similar to primers, will give the mix a shot this weekend. Am also going to try mixing some mmu's that are too light into my sample of Clinique powder foundation that is way dark. Don't have much hope for that as if I mix in enough mmu to lighten I think it will dilute the formula to a point where it won't have the adhesion it does now.

I have only found one mention of mixing mmu with monistat primer, and that was as a color corrector and they said they seemed to have good results. I will just be happy if I can finally whip up a cover for that thing in something thick enough with staying power and a match to my foundation.

Will let you know how it turns out.

I'll try it this weekend. I never thought of mixing my mmu with a primer!

Re: Anyone actually mixed their mmu with primer?

Hi ag! May I ask what you are going to try out the mixture for?

I was thinking that if the result was satisfactory on the thing, it might be useful as an alternative to tinted moisturizer which is no good for me as my skin is generally to oily.

Re: Anyone actually mixed their mmu with primer?

Well, my experimenting with the concoction has gotten mixed results...still working on the correct proportion of foundation to primer gel but I may be on to something here.

A lot seems to depend on "setting" the coverage with a veil and for that I am still searching for my HG for all over face. I can dab on serecite and seem to have a very good result with the coverage holding. I can't use the serecite veil all over my face as I wind up looking like a geisha

I react to kaolin, so veils containing it are out.

Anyone else trying out foundation/primer mix for hard to cover spots? How are you setting it?

Your thing sounds like a Keloid. I doubt makeup will adequately cover it if that's what it really is. Have you considered having the scar surgically revised by someone who does plastic work?

well i finally tried it last weekend (yay memorial weekend gave me 4 days off!!) I used my edm in intensive with my monistat "primer" and it did seem to do a bit of a base coverage but not what i was hoping for. i guess it would be good for days when i want minimal coverage like a tinted moisturizer and spot concealer bc monistat does seem to help with the oilies but its too much work to actually mix my primer with the mmu and then still put on foundatin afterwards. I'm wondering if it might be great for the color correcters edm has like the mint or lavender?

another experiment for another weekend

Unhappy Re: Anyone actually mixed their mmu with primer?

There is a post on here somewhere (not sure what key words I used for search) where one or two people are doing just that, mixing the primer and a corrector.

Myself, I don't want to prime my whole face, I just need some way to make foundation stick to that bump. My mix showed promise but has to be set with something on top. Very carefully. Then not touched.

I am very close to going to the mall (ugh) and to a dept store (double ugh) and seeing if there is a Clinique shade of that powder foundatin that is a match. I am sure it will run a small fortune and be way to large a size for just "dabbing" on this thing everyday.

It isn't a scar. Never had any injury there. Definitely some primo kind of sun damage and also quite likely something that can get bad. That side of my face is where the sun has tormented me morning and evening on my commute for years and years. I am too short for the visor to help, it's just below my sunglasses and guess I never had kept enough sunscreen on it.

I most certainly did consider having it removed, when I had decent insurance (an indecent HMO). The nasty network gate keeper doctor (an osteopath aargh) refused to refer me to a dermatologist or whomever could take care of it. She condescendingly told me to dab makeup on it.

I get so mad and depressed everytime I see it. I don't have medical insurance anymore so am up a creek until I do. Then again, maybe any removal of it would leave a keloid or scar just as bad as it.
