Bismuth Subgallate??

Does anyone know anything about this ingredient? I know the bismuth oxychloride in bare minerals is not agreeing with me, it's causing cystic acne for me. I've been using mario badescu's special healing powder & read the ingredients & noticed the last one on the list is bismuth subgallate. I did some googling & see that it's also in Jane Iredale's makeup, but was wondering how safe it is...........

Re: Bismuth Subgallate??

I did a quick search on this ingredient. Some things I noticed about it are that it promotes wound healing and has a mild astringent action.

It's also used for gastrointestinal problems and odor, nectrotic gingivitis, and in adenotonsilectomies (to prevent hemorrhage). One thing I read that bismuth subgallate's use for eczema and other skin conditions has been abandoned, but that's apparently not the case if it's in healing products.

It seems to be commonly used and I can't find any detrimental information on it at this time. I'll look into it a bit more, but if you're not having the same cystic acne, it might be ok.

Re: Bismuth Subgallate??

I'm using the powder for blemishes, but since eczema was mentioned I am curious. I've had eczema my whole life, since I was a baby. I have never found a cause.

Re: Bismuth Subgallate??

I searched for it on wikipedia and it appears that non-orally it's for wound healing.
