15 Drug Store Mineral Make-Up ~ Junk?

HI, I am new here, I read a lot before signing up. Still pretty confused at all of the choices. So I just thought I'd go and ask the question outright.

I am trying to find more affordable mineral makeup. I will go broke wearing the expensive stuff. I know, I know, it's worth it, but I just can't afford it right now.

I noticed in advertisements for CVS and Rite Aid, that there are a lot of mineral makeups popping up in the drugstores. 24.7, Mineral Power by Maybelline, Neutrogena Mineral Sheers, Physicians Formula Mineral Wear.....

Do any of them work like Bare E or like products?

Should I not waste my money trying these cheaper versions orrrrr are they pretty much the same thing?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for reading

Re: Drug Store Mineral Make-Up ~ Junk?

honestly, I find stuff from Silk Naturals (both sample and full size) and the samples from TheSheShop extremely affordable. You have to remember that a little really does go a long long way. So for me, I'd buy actual mineral products and not the 'drugstore' 'hoping to be mineral products' products. I hope you get what I mean.

For a budget conscious person like me... I opt for samples a lot of the times. It works out cos I don't have to use make up every day (although I really am starting too). My SN powder samples lasted two weeks (even with everyday use) and their only like USD0.99... so think about what you're buying and what's good for your skin.

Re: Drug Store Mineral Make-Up ~ Junk?

I am really not a fan of the drugstore brands of mineral makeup because they are not *true* mineral makeup as I have come to know and love it. I have checked out the packaging and ingredients information of lots of these brands and the mineral part of it (mica, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, etc.) is way down on the list, preceded by things like talc and ingredients that I could not begin to be able to spell here. In other words, drugstore "mineral" makeup is more like traditional powder foundation with a sprinkling of minerals thrown in so they can market it as "mineral makeup" or "mineral foundation". What you will find on the Internet with "true" mineral makeup brands are ingredients like mica, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, maybe silk powder, silica, and ingredients like that, and the foundations are limited with their ingredient list; much shorter and simplistic than what you would find in the drugstore. To me, brands like Silk Naturals, Lumiere, Ocean Mist, Alima, Meow Cosmetics, and many others are far superior to what you would find in the drugstore. Silk Naturals' foundation is very reasonably priced and I love it since you blend it yourself and you can change it as you skin tone may change with tanning in the summer, becoming lighter over the winter, etc.; it really is a tremendous value. Keep in mind too that even though you may pay between $12 to $20 for a foundation, that it will last for months and months.

Hopefully this has given you some insight as to the differences between drugstore "mineral makeup" and mineral makeup that is found on the Internet and discussed here on the forum.

I'm never tried MMU from drugstores but very hesistant to try it. Looks like they have a bunch of fillers that could break me out.

The drugstore brand mmu doesn't tend to be mmu in the strictest sense. It's still full of preservatives and fillers! You can get some brands online that have a really low price but are actually proper mmu. Plus, you can usually sample online to find your closest match.

Re: Drug Store Mineral Make-Up ~ Junk?

if you're trying to find more affordable prices, a lot of internet websites sell mineral makeup at reasonable prices that are WAY higher quality than drugstore brands. i would definitely look there first.

Re: Drug Store Mineral Make-Up ~ Junk?

drug store MMU is a hoax! They 'infuse' minerals with their regular formula. Still has a lot of skin irritants. I stay away from them.

Yep. It basically will most likely irritate your skin the same way their regular m/u did. There are so many good companies out there that have very generous samples for cheap (1.50, 2.00) or are sometimes even free! All you have to do is pay for shipping (EDM). You're better off ordering samples from different companies as you'll be able find a better color match and definitely better quality without all these extra ingredients.

I agree Most are filled with fillers like talc, and don't have a very long life expectancy, they go rancid after a short periof of time, in comparison to pure mineral make up, that lasts for AGES.
