I love mineral makeup, I really do but...

okay so i'm using lauress and love it since i discovered it a month ago. i've been using it everyday.

the only thing is that mineral make up seems to accentuate (sp?) my lines and pores more than if i do not use them at all.

i'm only 25 but there's teeny tiny little lines on my cheeks, right under my eyes and at the corners of my eyes. that's the only thing i do not like.

are there any different ways or ideals i can do to not have these lines? also my pores seem more defined after applying mineral make up, even though i don't have a lot.

before apply mmu, i apply aloe vera gel with a few drops of jojoba oil. wait for that to dry and then use juice beauty moisturizer with spf 30. it's not oily and settle fine on my skin.

should i be doing something different? i'm not ready to give up yet but as much as i love it, i may try mineral pressed powder to see if it makes any difference. that'll be my last resort though.

any ideas?? thoughts? thanks!

I'm not an expert on mineral makeup, but i have heard that it is supposed to give you a more natural finish, and its not supposed to accentuate fine lines or anything like that, maybe it depends on the brand of mineral makeup that you are using?

Re: i love mineral makeup, i really do but...

I use LaurEss and it doesn't emphasize my pores. I think the secret is to apply a primer before MMU. I use Pure Luxe cream eraser and it's supposed to zap big pores and fine lines and makes the makeup last longer, and it seems to be doing that quite well. I love it. Lately I've also been using the powder eraser on my t-zone and it really absorbs all the excess oil.

Re: i love mineral makeup, i really do but...

Oh dear...as I feared... I have yet to receive my first mineral makeup and samples, but powdered foundation such as 2-way cakes always highlighted my laugh lines, even though I don't have any wrinkles! I'd get some lines when I smile, wrinkle my nose, etc., but without makeup, or with fluid makeup, they are gone when I stop wrinkling up my face. The 2-way cakes, however registered the laugh lines on my face in a way that is very faint but still visible, and I have to smoothen the make-up afterwards. 2-way cakes are also too "cakey" (ha...of course, what else should i expect?) and I really hope that mineral makeup is different as I have already ordered a few tubs...

I also think you should try a primer.

Qwerty. I hope you ordered samples and not full sized jars just in case!

Re: I love mineral makeup, i really do but...

Remember MMU is supposed to diminish the appearance of lines and pores by creating reflecting light. This is an optical illusion so if you lean in close to the mirror they will be more visible. When you stand back a normal distance they should be more disguised. If they aren't you should try a primer, or a soft finish finishing powder (also a n illusion but so nice). I use the LaurEss Ultimatte and it does a great job of hiding my lines.

I have tried the Eraser but I found it too heavy feeling. I am very picky about my silicon products though I like them really light feeling, not dense. The dense ones like the Eraser make me feel like my makeup is melting off and that defeats the purpose of having the light MMU to begin with.

Also, a key to MMU is application. If you are applying in thick layers the lines will be emphasized. Thin multiple layers is always better. You may want to skip the aloe vera too. Today, ironically enough, I did aloe before my MMU and had similar results with the fine lines showing up with a MMU that without aloe doesn't do that. So I won't be using aloe before MMU anymore.

Re: I love mineral makeup, i really do but...

periwinkle, i am using the kick start as a primer. how does the purluxe cream eraser compare? i didn't see the ingredients on their site...but sounds good though.

qwerty, i don't think i have any wrinkles either but when i look very close with mmu on, they are THERE and lots too.

daerON, i'll have to test the other brands i have to see if i'm seeing the same thing.

makeupbabe, great explanation. i haven't thought of it that way but you're right. if i step back from the mirror and look at my face from a good distance, it differently looks soft and airbrushed. it's only when i'm right up to the mirror that these pores and lines become more distinguish than i thought.

thanks for the suggestion Hoozey. I'll skip the aloe next time and see if it'll look different.

as for the layers, i'd thought i was using a light hand. i'll have to experiment more...

I also think it has to do with the brand, and how much you're aplying. Have you tried a primer and using a finishing powder? The finishing powder is supose to give you that air brush look.

I have not tried the Kick Start so I can't compare. I just went to the Pure Luxe website and here are the cream eraser ingredients:

Eraser (original and color correcting)
cyclopentasiloxane, C30-45 alykl cetearyl dimethicone crosspolymer, dimethicone, titanium dioxide, sericite, iron oxide, mica, kaolin, vitamin E and zinc oxide

The key to applying the cream eraser is to use it very very sparingly. I just use a very miniscule amount, enough to thinly spread everything on my face, that's why it doesn't feel heavy at all. If you use any amount more than that, it will feel a bit slimy which I hate. It's similar to Smashbox's primer. I agree with Hoozey that thin multiple layers is better. That also applies to the primer (well, not multiple, but you get the drift!).

farris2: aww thanks!

Yes.... ....I ordered f/s from a number of brands already, including Meow, about 4 f/s with refills in total, as well as a number of samples from others, especially eyeshadows. Anyone who feels *bad* about being a makeup junkie should feel like a paragon of restraint in comparison. Still, I'm hopeful it'll work out as I have really sensitive skin (even eczema, ack! ) and most foundations cause me to break out in little bumps, even the higher end brands. Maybe I should just avoid the eye areas with MMU, or experiment to find the right way to apply it.

Thanks so much everyone for the advice. You ladies are really sweet. Is MMU similar to 2-way cakes in your experience? It seems for Shellie and myself, the problem isn't to diffuse wrinkles, but with powders in general that imprint any face muscle movements...sort of like leaving prints in the sand when you walk over it. As 2-way cakes are so successful and popular, I wonder if some skin-types simply "imprint" more than others?

Thank you, Farris. It's kind of funny because Aileen and I have polar opposite skin but it just goes to show that with the right application and the right MMU it works wonderfully. Glad I can be of help- I could never see going back to other MU
