Itchiness with Alima

I'm puzzled

I tried my sample of Alima in Olive-0, and liked the way it felt, the coverage and the shade itself (right undertones, although slightly too dark). After wearing it all day, at night, I could barely see any foundation left, but my face was very itchy, red and bumpy. I washed what remained of the foundation, and everything seems back to normal. I don't see anything in the ingredient list that might cause any allergic reactions. Titanium dioxide, zinc oxide, iron oxides and mica, nothing that has not been present in other foundations I've tried. Used the same skincare I usually do, so I don't think that made a difference. Maybe it was something else? Anybody experienced something similar?

Re: Itchiness with Alima

it's weird i was going to suggest first maybe it's the cold weather, it has happened to me when i was using a light moisturizer under my foundation, too light for the cold outside. or maybe it's just the formula, the way the foundation has been made ?
maybe try a second time your foundation to see if you get the same reaction. then maybe email alima and see what they have to answer.

Re: Itchiness with Alima

Mmmh, did not think about the cold weather, but I did spend quite some time yesterday in the cold, so maybe it's something like that. I will give it a try indoors to rule that out.

Glad to hear my skin is not just crazy.

Laure, I've seen you around in other threads, seems we have similar undertones! I did not like Everyday Minerals in intensive either, but now I'm trying the olive shades in semi matte and original glo. You're right, they have very true olive, without any pink.

Re: Itchiness with Alima

Their Original Glo is the only formula that doesn't irritate my skin. I had an allergic reaction last night to their Silk Dust. This was the 2nd time this happened. I am gonna have to pitch that stuff.

Re: Itchiness with Alima

I really like Alima eye shadows. Very understated and natural. And I had no reactions to their blush either. I don't see anything unusual in their ingredients either. I'm giving my face a rest for a few days and will try again. It is possible it was the combination of cold, wind and sun. Coverage was not very heavy, but it still blurred the pores on my cheeks.

Re: Itchiness with Alima

It would be lovely if you could keep us posted about your experience with Alima, Jandi!
I am considering trying Alima because Em dries me out (even the Or.Glo formula)...
What EM shade are you using, by the way? I wear Olive Fair, and am wondering if Olive 0 would be my shade with Alima.

Have you had any problems with any other foundations? I tend to get a lot of issues with MMU foundations and after trying a few different brands I realized it is the ones with zinc oxide higher in the ingredient list (first or second) that bother me. My skin gets very dry and starts to burn and then if I keep using it I will get very bad rash type and cyst breakouts. I can tolerate the high titanium dioxide ones better but they are still pretty drying. The foundations with mica listed first tend to be better for me.
Check the lineup of ingredients in the ones you've tried (on the start page of the mineral makeup mania forum there is a list of the ingredients in pretty much all the brands for easy reference.) This list is what helped me figure out most of my issues. Once I started listing the brands I'd tried and the ingredients, the problem became obvious.
I do think that different companies use different types/grades of mica and other ingredients so it could also be that Alima's mix for whatever reason just does not agree with you. I've not tried Alima (the ingredient list is not good for me because of the ZO being the 2nd ingredient) so I am not sure how it may be different from others.
HTH some -
