Hi,
I have been trying several samples of mineral blush, but I just can't seem to be able to apply it right. Using a regular blush brush, when I apply a bit of it, it looks really pigmented and too intense for my pale skin. As I blend it in, pigments just disappear, poof, leaving me with barely any color. I don't see this problem with regular makeup. I moisturize, use a primer (have a sample of Smashbox), then apply the foundation, and then the blush. I have tried setting powder on top. I have this problem with several brands, from EDM to Lumiere, so I am guessing something is wrong with my application. Should I use a kabuki brush to apply blush too? How do you girls get your blush to stay put? |

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I had that problem with mineral blushes too. You might try a fiber optic or skunk brush. They have white hairs on the end of the bristles and pick up pigments very lightly. I have the 198 or 188 (cant tell as it wore off) from MAC which is pretty good though I think I should have got the bigger one instead. I also have one that is really cheap as it was on clearance from a mineral place that is closing but I have seen it at Makeup Brushes: Fiber Optic Blush Brush - Silver
Though I think its a cheap looking brush and shoddily made handle (just a silver molded handle) its become my fave for applying once you get the hang of it. I love it though I will still need to find another one as I dont think it will last. I can see the hairs will eventually fall out. But it applies great for mineral blushes. I just tap a bit of blush into a glass bowl and dip my brush in.

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I always used a regular blush brush. To me it does not take as much as you might think b/c of the pigmentation. A kabuki is more dense and may apply more than you want. It took me some practice to get it right.

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
Hmm I don't know I just use a semi-large fluffy brush or skunk brush to apply mine, don't usually have any trouble. Maybe try buffing in layers with a slightly damp kabuki untill you get the desired look and then use a finishing dust. I find that I personally like using my mineral blush with my liquid/cream/cake foundation rather then my mineral makeup because I feel like it adhears better.

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
Thanks a lot, ladies
I think I saw a reasonably skunk brush a few days ago, I should give that a try. Squirl-nutkin, I probably got my kabuki from the same site you got that brush, hehe. I should have snagged one of those too, now it is all gone. |

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I have the same problem with mineral blushes. I really don't know how to apply. I'm getting a fibre brush soon, and will try your tips. I hope I get it right this time

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I just use a regular blusher brush and quite often find that I can't blend my mineral blush as well as regular blush. I do need a different brush.

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
Don't feel bad...I could never get mineral blush to work for me either!
What I did was just get a little on the tip and the swirl in the lid and barley brush it onto my cheeks.

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I had the same problem, my blush always looked too heavy. Until I could get it right I would put the blush on under my foundation so that once a layer of foundation was over it it looked natural.
Now I just use really light layers and build up to the level of colour I want. |

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I got a fiber optic blush and it worked! I was able to even apply a blush that has quite some shimmer on it (and I hate shimmer), and yet, I do not look like a light bulb at all.
Thanks! |

Re: Mineral blush is not my friend
I like to use a really soft but full brush like BE Heavenly face brush. I buff the blush on the apples of my cheeks. If I go overboard I like to use a big kabuki l(MAC face/body kabuki) in a little mineral veil or finishing powder to blend the edges.
