Mineral makeup application help

Hi ladies,

I obviously need help. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong, but it must be something. No matter which mineral makeup and primer I use, my makeup ends up looking cakey on my face. I have tried numerous different mineral makeup brands and 3 different foundation primers - nothing works for me. I tried different kabuki brushes (regular one and flat top). Here's what I do in the morning - I put on my moisturizer and let that sink in about 3 minutes. Then I put on primer and let that sink in and then put foundation on. I have tried a single light layer and multiple layers - either way it looks cakey. Does this happen to anyone else, and if so what have you found helped? Oh, my skin is pretty normal, except for an oily T-zone. Thanks for any suggestions.

Cin

Re: Mineral makeup application help

Ok, I'm not an expert, but I have tried many methods and sometimes mine came out cakey. First let the moisturizer soak in longer. I sometimes even take a tissue and blot if my face looks too shiney still. Also, I don't use a primer. I start with a kabuki brush and really tap it off until I hardly see any powder on it. Then I very very lightly go over the red areas or blotchy areas of my face. Use a very light touch. Next I take a foundation brush and just using the sides I carefully swipe over all areas. I still don't have much powder showing on the brush, but i redip several times untill I get the coverage I want. I also found that synthetic brushes work best for me.
In the summer I sometime switch to the wet method because it is so humid here.

You want to make sure that you can't see much powder on the brush at all. Also, are you sure that you have the right foundation color?

Re: Mineral makeup application help

maybe you can try light foundation and that's will be not cakey on you?
allso you can warming the kabuki brush's hair or the flat top brush's hair and than to take the minerals from the lid and then applying on your face...in that way the foundation will assimileted with your skin.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have a foundation brush, but I will try with less powder on my brush and see. Also you said in the summer you sometimes switch to the wet method, do you find the foundation stays on longer with the wet method?

Thanks, Cindy

Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I might be putting too much powder on the brush at one time. I will try tomorrow just putting a very small amount. Also, I am trying several different colors trying to find my match, so that may be a problem also. Thanks again, Cindy

Hmmm, never thought about warming the brush first. How would I do that? Just wrap my hand around it? Will give that a try tomorrow also. Thanks, Cindy

Thanks for the tip. I will be careful, as I don't want my brush to melt.

Re: Mineral makeup application help

i think you should swirl your brush more, then tap, then buff more.
and some water spray (like evian spray) will help settle the found on your skin too.

Re: Mineral makeup application help

I think you might need to let your moisturiser soak in longer. If I don't leave it long enough my foundation can look cakey.

Re: Mineral makeup application help

In my experience, when my makeup looks cakey it is because I have too much moisturizer underneath. Honestly my makeup looks better when I don't use moisturizer. I know this goes against what most will recommend but for me this is the key.

I don't know what type of primer you use, but if it is a liquid or cream primer, then it may be too much no top of a moisturizer. Having both substances on under your foundation my be too heavy on your skin.
