MMU application with a normal powder brush?

I have a really cheap kabuki brush that I was going to replace with a Sephora Kabuki, but before doing that, I wanted to know, is it necessary/better to apply mineral foundation with a kabuki brush or can you use a face/powder brush instead? And which is going to give me the lightest application?
Thanks!

Re: MMU application with a normal powder brush?

You can use anything you want to apply your foundatoin. Some use a regular foundation brush, others a sponge, etc. But using a kabuki is the safest way to make sure you get full coverage. You can get a light application with a kabuki as well. It's really up to you, try some things out and see what you prefer.

If you already have a powder brush, just take it out and try it out! Maybe you'll like it. There really is no right or wrong way, there is only YOUR WAY. If you like the results you are getting, than it doesn't matter how you did it.

Re: MMU application with a normal powder brush?

When I first started using MMU I didn't have a kabuki, so I just used a fluffy powder brush. It went on alright, but the coverage was very light. I found once I started using a kabuki, I got much better coverage and it looked smoother.

I think it has to do with the density of the bristles. A powder brush doesn't have as many densely packed bristles as a kabuki so it will give you lighter coverage. Also, I think a flat-top brush gives even heavier coverage than a kabuki. Hope that helps

Re: MMU application with a normal powder brush?

I use a fluffy powder brush with Monave, because the formulation is pretty dense, so you really need a really small amount of minerals with a fluffy brush to achieve a beautiful natural finish and great coverage. If I use a kabuki with Monave or use it wet it will come out too heavy for my taste.

Re: MMU application with a normal powder brush?

A fluffy powder brush will definitely give you a lighter coverage than a kabuki. Basically, the fluffier a brush is (that is, the less dense the bristles are), the sheerer the application! That principle applies to any powder product, such as blush and eyeshadow too!

You can use whatever gives you the look you want, but I think kabuki brushes give that airbrushed look that I personally love
