New with eyeshadows
Is there a brand or collection you can suggest for someone just starting out with eyeshadows? Nothing too sparkly. Maybe some neutrals first, matte or shimmery? My eyes are blue.

Re: New with eyeshadows
If you must, must have neutrals, check out Bobbi Brown stonewashed nudes pallet, eye shadow, color clone, mineral makeup, b t Silk Naturals. You can buy them separately. But there are also three pop colours to go with - Caperberry, Beach Plum, and Scallop Pink. At least it'd give you a bunch to play with, and yes, the collection is really neutral - and nice.
If you want to get a bit more adventurous but not too, I'd suggest Idolize, Taupetastic, and Mink to go with ![]() |

Very nice thank you. I will have to buy that next. The color ocean is really pretty too!

Re: New with eyeshadows
I started out with NYX shadows and I love them. Good colors, great pigmentation, and really cheap. I also love my Elite Pro 88 palette. I really wish I'd bought this sooner...
NEW 88 ELITE EYESHADOW PALETTE USED BY ARTISTS ON SET! - eBay (item 360035560703 end time Mar-31-08 22:03:36 PDT) There's a ton of great colors and a lot of dupes for more expensive eyeshadows. After I had this, I would be out shopping and think..."Nope, I don't need that color. I already have one like it in my palette.

Re: New with eyeshadows
Yeah, and they're surprisingly good quality. I highly recommend this palette.

Re: New with eyeshadows
I think Coastal Scents is getting that same palette for alot less. It isn't for sale, yet, but will be soon.

Re: New with eyeshadows
I'm just getting started with eye shadows, too, and I've fallen in love with Cory e/s. I just sampled until I found the ones I wanted, so I wasn't wasting time with colors I won't wear a lot.
Someone posted some videos on wet application on the thread I started: Applying eye color wet?

Re: New with eyeshadows
i would say since you are starting out you should get some drugstore brands like maybelline or loreal or covergirl. they are very cheap so you can buy a lot to experiment with. & by experimenting you will find what you like & dislike, & what colors you like the most! so then later when you have a better idea of what looks great on you, you can upgrade. :]

Re: New with eyeshadows
You should try Alima : clean, mineral makeup plus they have the most gorgeous colors. They have both matte and more shimmery shadows and all the colors blend well and are very classy. You can't go wrong with that. The samples are generous and cheap too.
Hope that helps. |

Re: New with eyeshadows
Thanks! I must say though I haven't been experimenting too much with eyeshadows...but I did receive my Lauress shipment today and I have to go to work so I will give some of those a try!

Re: New with eyeshadows
I would definitely recommend the Clinique products for a beginner. They are easier to work with than the brighter MAC and other pigments. Or you could try drug store brands. The Maybelline "Dream Matte Mousse" worked very well and it was easy to apply.
