Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

hi,

i've been branching out with all my mmu e/s samples, and am having a great time...

BUT....i keep inadvertantly spilling small amts of eyeshadow/liner under my eyes and cheekbones as i apply it onto my eyes. then, when i try to wipe it off, it either smears badly, or i have to use jojoba oil, and it messes up my whole masterpiece!!

please mmu mavens, give me your sage advice. how do i avoid this? i tap tap tap my brushes, but alas...the small deposits of eyeshadow sprinkle downward under my eyes..grrr....

any and all advice, tips, or techniques would be greatly appreciated!!
thanks so much!

Re: Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

what I do is I apply the e/s before I apply my foundation/powder, after I'm done with my eyes, I use tape to pick up all the e/s that fall on my cheek/face.

I can of rub my brush on the lid of my shadow container to work it into the brush a little, then tap off the excess and apply. Sort of similar to how you apply mineral foundation.

You can put one sheet of toilet paper under your bottom lash line/on your cheek to catch the fallout.

Re: Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

thanks, ladies...

hmmm...i was thinking of doing the "don't apply foundation until after i finish my eyes" but it's just so counterintuitive! (it's like i'm trained to do it all first!) and i worry that it won't look smooth and even if i do it after the fact??

i tried the toilet paper under the eye, but i have a hard enough time applying my shadows and liners, the 'extra variable', just messes me up!

hmm...okay, i'm gonna give it a go!!
thanks for the tips!

You have to really swirl it into your brush. Also you need a nice dense brush, don't skimp on the quality of the brushes or you do get more fallout. Also sweep a layer of finishing powder under your eyes first then when you are done just brush away the extra powder then the fallout goes with it.

Are you using a damp brush to apply the shadows? That might help with fallout as well.

Someone in one of the forums mentioned tapping, or patting, it on. I've found this helps to keep the fallout to a minimum. If some does fall on my face, I just use a chunk from a cotton ball to sweep it off.

Re: Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

a lot of makeup artists recommend putting a swipe of powder under each eye to catch fall out, and then wipe away the excess powder when you're done putting on eyeshadow. another method is to hold a piece of paper or tissue under your eye as you apply to catchfall out, but i dont like this method because i think its hard to apply eyeshadow this way.

Yes I always put loose powder under eyes before applying dark or loose shadows & wipe away after also after you dip/wipe or swirl your shadow onto your brush always tap it so the excess powder can fall off this really helps!!!

this will help if your using a wet/dry shadow if not using a damp brush with make your shadow hard to blend & slighlty change the color!!!!!!

Re: Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

Honestly? I don't use makeup brushes! *gasp* I never have. I use my fingertips and I never run into eyeshadow falling down (even when I apply the dark grays and even black!) onto my cheeks. But I've heard that if you put extra powder below your eyes it'll be easier to just wipe away if some e/s falls down there. I hope that helps?

Re: Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

use a eyeshadow base, invest in a quality brush, get a fluffy feather one and try dusting away the particles (this works for me) or if all else fails apply the e/s before the foundation

Re: Pls help! How do you prevent e/s from falling under eyes/cheeks?

If I'm using my eye shadow dry then I pat the shadow into the base. This usually helps prevent fallout. But I usually apply with a damp brush.

If I do get fallout then I wipe it away gently with a fan brush. I always apply my foundation first and don't usually have a problem.
