Pressing mmu
has anybody tried to press their mineral foundations? this thought came to me the other way, as an alternative to carrying around messy mmu. has anybody tried it? if so do you just use alcohol?

Re: pressing mmu
I've pressed my eyeshadows before to make it more convenient to carry around. I added alcohol, waited for it to dry a bit and then pressed it. I only did a small amount at a time so that I will use it up (hopefully) before bacteria starts to grow in it.
if you could find a compact large enough to press your foundation, it would be worth a try. If you do try and it turns out, I'd be interested in hearing about it. |

Re: pressing mmu
if i was turning anyof my loose powders into compacs (i prefer loose so i wouldn't unless it was for friends). i would either use a glycerin water solution to cause the powder to harden. OR, i would prolly bite my tongue and pay the shipping for fyrinnaes powder modifier. YES, it says on the page that its for eyeshadows, and that's primarily what it was created for, but it is also a good product to use for other powders (this is also stated on the page for the product). it's only 4 dollars, and theres enough presevative in it that bacterial growth won't be a problem. and as fyrinnae is a 'vegan cosmetics company' (i haven't quite got my head around the fact that mu can be a dietary statement); they won't have anything unhealthy in there.
like i said, i wouldn't do this for my own use (the only reason i have a compac is that i had hoped i could find an identical color to my loose powder, but also so that i could touch up at school. |

Re: pressing mmu
These videos might be very helpful to you. The first one shows you how to prep for the process.

Alcohol alone won't work because the
re are no binders. Here are some helpful threads: Pressed Mineral Makeup Planning to press my EDM foundation Pressing MINERAL powders

Re: Pressing mmu
Alcohol does work. it may not be the best for the job but it is sufficient for those who want to modify their powdered products quickly. there is always something better for the job, but it also depends on the finish that they want. one person who uses alcohol may only want it to be barely compacted together, so that method would work fine for them.

Re: Pressing mmu
But what instrument do you girls use to press the minerals? I've always been curious about this, and i want to try, because bringing lose powder and touching up in public or shared ladies room can be a huge hassle. Thanks!

Re: Pressing mmu
you should do, as foundation has all of the ingredients that eyeshadow has. eyeshadow has less ingredients than foundation of course, but as they contain the same ingredients they should press in a similar manner

Re: Pressing mmu
I've pressed lots of eyeshadows, foundations, and blushes.
I've used Alcohol alone Alcohol with Jojoba oil A pre-made base from LaBelle cosmetics I've also used to hold them down and press the minerals together A quarter A pressing tool from LaBelle cosmetics A metal object that fit whatever compact I was pressing the mineral powder into. My results were They all held together about the same. Because of no additional waxes and binders except for the ones that included jojoba oil and or the ingredients in the pre made mix, the finished products are fragile than traditional compact makeup items but handled with care they lasted quite well. I didn't notice a difference in durability between the foundations, eye shadows, or blushes. They're all equally fragile yet will maintain their shape if handled with care.

Re: Pressing mmu
A fun find:
I went to the dollar store, and they had these little compacts with 10 little wells of lip color. The brand was LA Colors, and the compact is only about the size of a credit card (only thicker, obviously!) I bought a bunch, and I've already scraped and washed one out (tip: buy a crappy nail-brush at the dollar store, too, and use that to scrub the lip gook out!) and it's all ready to fill with my e/s samples! I also got a hand sanitizer there that has alcohol, glycerin, aloe, and Vit. E in it, and I intend to use that as my medium. I'll let you know how it goes!

Re: Pressing mmu
i have a container in which to press my foundation in, recently i accidentally dropped my power touch up compact and it completely shattered- i'm not really bummed, i only used it for touchups and it only cost about 7 dollars. anyways, i pressed my MMU with just alcohol and so far it seems to be holding up. i'll be posting again with updates. thanks ladies for all your help!

Re: Pressing mmu
alcohol works really well for compressing things if they are being applied dry; however because of bacteria growth that can occur when applying wet; its a good idea to either compress 1 or 2 weeks worth at a time, or use some kind of preservative (kills germs; you can find natural ones, or they are in all available premade pressing liquids)
when i finish the compact i am currently using, i might press some of my loose powder into the compac palet with the glycerin water mix i use; as i apply my powders dry. as there is no natural preservatives in loose mmu; you have to be extremely careful with bacteria growth, as it can damage your makeup |

Re: Pressing mmu
Here are all of my SheSpace and Signature samples:
![]() I won't bother doing this with my full-size colors (unless I need something to take with me for touch-up), but for the samples, this is WAY more space-efficient and makes them easier to just grab and use. My Cory samples are next. They seem to be holding together just fine, but I need to leave them to set for another couple days before I try using them. I'll report back then.
