Problems with my new coastal scents brushes

my package of coastal scents brushes arrived yesterday. i took them out of their packaging and washed them. then i hung dry them. i was taking them down and i noticed a strong odor coming from my Deluxe Buffer Brush. it was atrocious. i smelled my other two brushes too see if they smelled just as bad. they didn't smell as bad but they do have an odd, distinct odor. now, i'm afraid to use my new brushes. how can i get ride of the smell?!

Re: Problems with my new coastal scents brushes

I have read about their animal hair brushes smelling bad in a few reviews. Have you contacted Steve and Kathy about it? It might be good for them to know about this issue so they can take it up with their brush supplier.

Same thing with mine. A lot of animal hair brushes smell like that when you wash them, though once they have dried, the smell goes away, it's just whilst the hair of the brushes are wet.

If the scent doesn't go away after the brush dries contact them, I'm sure they will offer to replace the brush for you, they have excellent customers service.

Re: Problems with my new coastal scents brushes

I've had several various brand of brush stink when they were brand new. The smell does go away. It just takes time but it will go away. If you really like the brush quality, I'd just wait it out for the stink to fade.

I believe the smell that they are talking about is coming from the natural animal hair brushes.

I could be wrong though.

Re: Problems with my new coastal scents brushes

i don't know why all natural brushes don't smell when wet- must be the animal... but some do, like a wet dog smells... just the natural odor of the oils in the hair

I'm totally agree with her

Just wash yours brushes and the smell goes away for ever

I wash mine with a organic soap or "savon d'alep" or a "soap from weleda"

For European, here : for the organic soap : "Savon liquide Gravier" Savon d'alep ou savon de Marseille des produits de tradition.

The essentials oils in the composition of soap help to smell good and "désinfecter" the brushes.
For American women, the brand like Aubrey Organic or Burt's bees are good too.

thanks for the post. i find that the smell of the natural hair lingers for a little, and then eventually disappears after more washings.

Oh gawd, it just occurred to me that it's possible some brushes are passed off as badger, goat, etc hair when in fact it is dog hair. I thought I remember reading a couple years ago that some fur coats that were made in China was actually dog fur. Eewwww.

Re: Problems with my new coastal scents brushes

So it's been weeks since I washed my brushes for the first time. I haven't been using my brushes so I don't have a need to wash them yet. I think the theory about the brushes smelling only when they're wet is very believable. I guess I'll have to wash my brushes again to find out.

And yes, in China, they take stray dogs and cats and use their fur to make fur coats. May their souls rest in peace.
