Vein color
Many of the mineral sites state that you can tell your undertone by the color of your veins on your inner wrist or face. Have any of you found this to be true? For example --
Blue veins= cool Green veins=warm Purple veins=neutral When I first started sampling MMU some months ago I thought my veins were green. This a.m. I noticed my veins had a definite blue hue. I have a yellow look to my skin(face and neck) and have usuually worn warm, gold or olive undertone makeup. Maybe I've been wrong all along. I have always stayed away from the cool MMU for fear of looking pink on my face and it not matching with my yellowish neck. I have seen some beautiful before and after pictures on various MMU forums but sometimes the face looks beautiful but absolutely does not match their neck and this looks funny to me. |

Re: Vein color
Everyday Minerals site goes on to say that veins that are both blue and green indicates an Olive undertone. Personally I've never seen anyone with purple veins.
I agree I've seen makeovers where the face did not match the neck. But i see this all the time in real life. |

Re: Vein color
Heh, without makeup my face does not match my neck :-/
For a long time I used cool tone shades as my face has some pinkness on it. And noticed that look unnatural on pictures. Even when not wearing makeup, LOL. The descriptions I read around about warm/cool/neutral/olive/etc confused me a lot. Specially the parts of "looks best in". I look good in browns, green, pinks, lavender, red and blue. Both gold and silver jewelry suit me. Specially confusing when my veins look a blueish green (no, haven't seen purple veins either). I figured out my tone is olive when I recalled that when I bruise, after the initial red and purple, I turn a very appealing shade of green. |

Re: Vein color
My veins are also blue and green. As a result, I've had my best color MMU foundation match with the "Olives" from Everyday Minerals. Other shades always turned pink or orange on me.
Honestly I think the suggestions of what color clothes or jewelery metal color is all subjective and really doesn't work for everyone. |

Re: Vein color
i think when they say blue & green they mean you have both blue and green veins at the same time. maybe some are blue on your arm and some are green on your leg or something like that.

Re: Vein color
I too have both blue and green veins. Olives are a somewhat close match for me but are too yellow and a little too pink (I have NO visible pink to my skin). I can wear both warm and cool colors (although some look better on me than others) and I can wear silver and gold equally well. I have neutral/golden/yellow/muted peach tones to my skin. I think I've determined that I'm a netural/golden-neutral.
I think this stuff can all be very confusing and I've discovered that you can't always go by "the rules" when determining which category you fall under. They are of course something you should go by because it should at least help narrow things down... but if you're noticing that the color family you "should" be in isn't matching up with the way you want to match up, don't be afraid to try the other families too! I've spent loads of money on samples from various companies because I refused to acknowledge that I could be a neutral, when in fact, it appears that I am. So don't be like me and waste all that time and money!! haha

I don't feel that all the MMU companies are consistant about undertones. What one company considers a neutral beige...another company calls it a warm neutral and another company calls it something completely different. EDM has the most bizarre collection of foundation colors. Last edited by laurie_lu : 03-18-2008 at 01:06 PM. |

Re: Vein color
I have dark hair and eyes, and blue veins. I am definitely a "cool" - I look best in jewel tones and look sickly in "warm-toned" clothing and makeup shades. However, I find cool tone foundations TOO pink for my skin (it already has a lot of redness in it) and I prefer a neutral foundation. It seems to neutralize the redness in my skin better than the cool foundations do.

Re: Vein color
i have purple veins.
![]() i think the theory is correct since veins are usually blue. so when mix with cool skin tone it'll remain blue; blue + warm tone (yellow undertone) makes the veins look green; and blue + neutral tone (pinkish + yellowish) make the veins look purple. ME TOO! I was starting to think I was the only one. I have both blue and purple. According to that chart that makes me a cool-neutral I guess? Lately as I've been looking into it, by my natural hair and eye color, it sounds like its pretty accurate.

Re: Vein color
These things confuse me as well. I think part of it has to do with the fact that your undertones may change with the seasons. I go from a very neutral verging on cool in the deep of winter to a warm-ish golden tone in the summer. It's all very frustrating. I picked up a tip somewhere that if you swatch possible foundations on your upper chest you're more likely to find the right color. Not sure exactly why it works, but it has done the trick for me.

Re: Vein color
Thanks for all the input. This confirms for me that you just have to try a variety of undertones with each company and sometimes disregard "the rules'. It is so true that there is such a difference between what one company considers warm or cool or olive, etc., compared with another. Interesting that ones undertone can change with the seasons. I knew that my skin gets darker as the weather warms but didn't realize I might jump over to a different undertone. MMM
As far as veins being purple, the veins on my upper lids are purple, yet the ones on my wrist and face are, upon closer, inspection blue-green as laurie lu describe above. What is the best color for a concealer to cover up very prominent blue-green veins on the face. I have tried to use Lumiere's medium concealer (yellow) but it looks like a dull mustard color on my face. |

Re: Vein color
i agree with you. according to some websites i'd be more warm than cool
. but my veins on my wrist are blue, and i am cool toned. a MAC makeup artist told me so, i tend to believe a pro, and i have found my match in the cool tones foundations.maybe try an "apricot" concealer (or matte eyeshadow) ? that's what i got when i asked someone for a concealer to cover the blue discolorations on my eyes.
