Question Why not nano particles?

hi everyone:

i have a question and maybe it's a fool question cause i am new in MMU.

i study the mineral powder foundation ingredinets list in delphiforums and i found that some brands emphasize that they don't use nano particles or micronized ingredients.
so what's wrong with the nano particles?
does it hurt our skin?

many thanks

Re: why not nano particles?

I think it's mainly because there hasn't been enough safety testing on that particle size.

NO!!!
I do not think nao particles are used in MMU. I think nano technology is used mainly for skin care and creams. They penetrate into you skin, delivering what ever ingredients are in the skin care.
Micronized minerals are used for mmu, bascially. I think the organic skin care site states anything about 2.5 microns are safe for the skin.
Some gals just do like to use micronized minerals.
I do have information somewhere I will try to dig it up for you

Re: Why not nano particles?

I found this on Web MD, it talks about nano particles and mineral makeup

Quote:
Mineral Makeup: Buyer Beware

One of the factors that makes mineral makeup so popular is the smooth, natural, long-lasting coverage -- a feat that's some companies accomplish by pulverizing or "micronizing" their minerals into microscopic or even nanoparticle size.

But some researchers say this activity may come with a price.

"Research shows that when some molecules are dramatically reduced in size to the level of a nanoparticle, they can have very different and very toxic properties than that same molecule would have in its conventional size," says Jane Houlihan, research director of consumer watchdog agency The Environmental Working Group in Washington.

"Minerals like zinc and titanium are safe when applied to healthy skin but in a micronized nanoparticle form, there remains a concern, particularly when applied to damaged skin, or when inhaled," says Houlihan.

The bottom line: Even when beauty comes from the earth, it's still a case of beauty buyer beware.

Here is a huge list of past and present mineral makeup companies and their ingredients. This list also notes that if a company uses nano particles or not.

Re: Why not nano particles?

A fair amount of companies use micronized titanium dioxide. What I dislike about micronized ingredients (aside from safety issues) is that just by the nature of their size, the coverage is far more sheer.
