Question Your definition of MMU

Hi, girls:

I used to thought that the definition of MMU is that they are made all by natural minerals and are all powders. However, as I check the ingredinet list, I found that many brands are not pure minerals as I though.

So maybe I am wrong?
If I was, then what's the definition of MMU?

Re: Your definition of MMU

you're not wrong, some brands definitely add unecessary ingredients. they're still MMU imo, but not "pure" mineral makeup.

Re: Your definition of MMU

I know pure mineral make up literally doesn't have many ingredients. I know mine has only 4 or five. Usually what most ppl don't qualify as real minerals is stuff that you see at the drugstore. Most of the companies there are just following the trend.

Put it this way, if you don't know understand what any of the ingredients are and the list goes on forever, its probably not pure.

Re: Your definition of MMU

thanks for answering?

So what's the difference between the "not pure MMU" and traditional MU?
Is it right that as long as the company like, they can just claim that they are MMU withoust breaking laws?

Re: Your definition of MMU

'not pure' MMU is companies substituting talc powder with mica and calling it mineral makeup. Yet they still keep all the other man made chemical crap in it too.

They're not breaking any laws because technically there is a mineral ingredient in it such as mica, titantium dioxide, or zinc oxide which you can find in all traditional makeup.

It's just clever marketing.

There's nothing wrong with 'not pure' MMU. I have a couple drugstore 'not pure' foundations that I find work better than many of the real MMU foundations.

Re: Your definition of MMU

Thanks for sharing, Laurie lu.

However, I think most girls choose MMU in stead of traditional makeup because we think they are all nature and do no harms to our skin.
If the definition of MMU is simply containing mineral ingredients, then all the traditional makeup can say they are MMU. Because they all have titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

Re: Your definition of MMU

My definition of MMU is a makeup product made primarily from minerals and anything extra added is considered natural. Like Lauroyl lysine, Vit. E, Vit A, Silk Powder, Pearl Powder, etc. to me those added ingredients are beneficial and natural. Unlike the drugstore brands that toss in silicones, methacrylate, Octododecanol (spelling?), Propylene Glychol, or whatever. I love silicone primers but I don't think silicone in a MMU is "honestly" MMU.

they technically could. however, i do think there's a difference. for starters, i liek to read labels. si if i see titanium dioxide paired with silicone, i doubt it's a real mineral stuff.

i also think beyond the ingredient list, there is another difference. most of the MMU brands we buy are from rather small companies. they do not produce their mineral products by industrial means on a big scale. Fyrinnae is a good example of that, they produce once they get the order. besides, there's enough threads about them, we can notice another difference : the customer service. although i never tried l'oréal's or any other big makeup company customer service, i do think it's easier to reach them and get an answer if they're a "real", human sized, MMU company. they do not make profit from a fashion trend for everything called "natural", so (i guess) maybe for them keeping a clientele is more important.

that's why l'oréal may produce its mineral stuff, it's still not gonna be MMU to me.

Here is an excellent article on what mineral makeup really is by the self proclaimed makeup guru Paula Begoun:
