Zinc Sensitivity In Foundations

Does anyone else have this? My skin reacts badly to mmu foundations with higher concentrations of zinc oxide in them. The problem being - I like heavier coverage so these tend to be the ones I prefer.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem and what might have worked for you -

i have this too. i realized that it isn't only everyday minerals that broke me out, but anything with zinc because some sunscreen with it also broke me out. it sucks for sure.

Yeah, all the foundations that have heavier coverage and are marketed as "creamy" I can't wear because they've got so much zinc oxide in them. So many people have told me that zinc is "supposed" to be soothing and healing on the skin and that they don't think that the zinc is the problem - but based on quite a few trial and errors I'm almost certain that it is -
Have you found anything that works well?

You should try cory. Its mineral foundation contains only titanium dioxide and iron oxide, no zinc .

Re: Zinc Sensitivity In Foundations

no, i haven't actually, in terms of mmu. i've gone back to traditional ones from drugstores and department stores. i believe some of them still contain zinc oxide, but not as much as most mmu. good luck finding your alternative.

Re: Zinc Sensitivity In Foundations

I found that high zinc foundations made me itchy. I know it is the zinc oxide for me at least since I make my own minerals and through trial and error figured out too much zinc oxide and I don't get along. Hope you find something that works for you.

Basically through a lot of trial and error. The ones that caused problems were initially were Meow Flawless Feline and MAD Minerals. When I compared the ingredient list between those 2 and the ones that didn't cause breakouts (like Signature Minerals and EM) - the problem became obvious. I've tried a few others with higher zinc (like Dream World Luna and Mineral Boutique Cover It) and I can tell now when my skin starts to burn and tingle throughout the day that the zinc content is too high for me.

Foundations having no zinc oxide in them are Cory's and the one mentioned above by Meow (purrfect puss).

I actually have tried Cory and it works pretty well - it is too matte for me though so I have to use a glow powder over it, and it didn't stay on me throughout the day as well as I hoped it would. In general it was one of the better ones I tried, but I'd rather buy from a place that has better c/s than Cory and maybe updates their website once in a while...... but I guess you can't have everything?! Maybe I should give Cory another try - the prices are certainly good which is important to me too.

Re: Zinc Sensitivity In Foundations

Hi Carmonious,
I recently ordered from Cory a few weeks back and again back earlier this year. Delivery was pretty fast compared to others that I've ordered from this year, especially recently. They are matte but she has updated with new colors and other products. I've heard about CS issues with them but took a chance anyway and have never had a problem at all with product (odors) or anything else.
Just letting you know my experience if you decide to order from them I hope it works out.
I also agree with you that you can't beat the .35 samples. They're small but if you load up on them shipping is inexpensive too.

I read this so I did a search on cosmeticdatabase.com, you can see the result here, maybe it causes allergies or something

Thanks for the info. I have had a lot of people tell me it "shouldn't" be the zinc irritating my skin, as zinc oxide is supposed to be soothing and anti-inflammatory. But - on me it's the exact opposite. And like you I've done trial and errors and I am pretty much sure now. I can use some foundations that have zinc down the line in the ingredient list a little bit, but if it's the first, second, or even maybe third? ingredient - it doesn't work.

Thanks for the info. I've ordered from Cory twice and can't really say I've been disappointed - I've lasted a month or more using just samples of her foundations (which tells how concentrated they really are) - and processing and shipping was a week both times, so can't complain about that either. I did notice a smell to the finishing powder samples I ordered, but nothing else.
Do you know offhand what new products or new colors she's posted? I haven't noticed anything, but maybe I'm not observant enough. I always notice that "new spring releases spring 2005" section - wondering why she doesn't reword that or take it down? (not like it was 3 years ago or anything - LOL) Although - I do give the disclaimer to say that some people have mentioned she should redo her whole website, and then take it back saying if she did she might have to raise her prices and they don't want her to - and I have to agree with that....

thank you for posting that - I guess every ingredient is a potential allergen or irritant to somebody.
