I've done it twice already but I just started the 30 day challenge on the 1st where I go everyday for a month for an hour each day & see my results Im hoping to lose weight, feel great & get in better shape My moms friend lost 14 lbs in 4 days my mom lost 8 in 10 but she is already real tiny so its not like she has much to lose anyways just wonderin if any of you have tried it & the results?? I know for me WOW the hardest & best workout I ever got EVER lol !!!!!!!!!

Re: Bikram Yoga?

I LOVE yoga!!! I'm all about it. It makes me think that maybe everyone's losing weight really quickly due to sweating off water weight. Still sounds super fun! People think yoga is so easy but it kicks your butt!!!!!!

I have, while looking for the best videos of yoga, found a couple that were Bikram Yoga. I agree with what McRubel says, yoga isnt easy, i started doing yoga 2 months ago, and it has helped me develop muscle on my legs arms as well as my tummy, of couse i do other excersices that help as well but Yoga trains your muscles and challenges them like no other work outs, it gives you a lot of stamina and muscle tone.

Sounds to me like these people are losing water weight though, by dehydration, but once they drink water they could recover the weight, Yoga will make you lose weight but you dont have to get into a sauna like room to be able to shed some pounds

Good luck! =)

Re: Bikram Yoga?

I've never heard of this but I think yoga alone will definitely make it hard enough

Re: Bikram Yoga?

i am a yoga teacher of 25yrs and a purist. i believe bikram yogawill cause you long term injuries and weight loss will be fluid loss not fat. this yoga is a clever marketing ploy feeding people's mindset that sweating means you are getting results and working hard....this is really irrelevant

Re: Bikram Yoga?

I feel so much better now Im on the 30 day challenge & only have done 8 days so far in arow I feel so good!!! Ive done Regular Yoga Before & felt good but in bikram feel alot better doing it because the heated room helps me to be more flexible causing less injury than I used to feel with Regular yoga!! I can already see & feel amazing results its hard to go EVERY day but Im doing it becaause I am determined to lose this baby weight!!!!!

Re: Bikram Yoga?

yeah but are you sure some of it wasn't water from all the sweating. I think gentle yoga is just as effective and you tone up super fast, and don't have to sweat as much. I'm not a fan of heat exhaustion.

Re: Bikram Yoga?

hmm, so i suppose it's like the swimming pool and gym, the heat in the room helps you in the effort.
as for sauna, there's a way of breathing you must learn, it's hard to explain but once you're in you adapt yourself to the heat. and usually there's a bucket filled with water and eucalyptus, so you just have to put some on the hot stones and the eucalyptus in it will help you breathe

Re: Bikram Yoga?

I believe in Yoga. I haven't formally done Yoga, but I am looking to start classes. However, I have studied various forms of Yoga, and their benefits; and I do NOT think Birkram style is good for people..AT ALL!!

Yoga in itself has all kinds of benefits; a longer, leaner look, better flexibility, an all-around better appearance and better fitness level....However, I fail to see the benefits of putting people in a stifling room do to exercise. After all the information we now have, and all the access to good info., WHY do people still think sweating will help them????

I am in the medical field...I KNOW sweating has it's place...it cools our bodies...that's great...But FORCING YOURSELF to sweat excessively is NOT (in my mind) a good way to healthfully lose wieght and make yourself more fit. When we sweat excessively, we are depleting our bodies of precious hydration, and resources we NEED. We lose many nutrients in our perspiration.

When you perspire excessively like that, you are only losing water weight..which you will gain back rapidly anyway...The Yoga itself might be good for you, but the non-stop heavy sweating negates many of those benefits.

The elevated body temp. could possibly cause many unwanted side effects (besides dangerous fluid depletion)..one being high blood pressure..

REAL weight loss is NOT losing water...it's not losing calcium, and it's not losing muscle. REAL weight loss is FAT LOSS. The ONLY way to do that is thru. eating right (NOT dieting), and exercising in a way that the body does not suffer from. When we close ourselves in a 100+ degree room, and do exaustive exercise which purpose is to sweat as much as possible, the body suffers.

Dehydration is BAD. Ever have a hang-over? How did it feel? Not so great, right? Think a hang-over is good for your body? All a hang-over is, is DEhydration..AND loss of important nutrients...Just like the kind of dehydration Birkram Yoga causes. That can't be good...right?

I am sure there are many proponents out there touting the 'wonderful' effects of Birkram..just like there were many people that thought FenFen was great.

My personal advice to anyone would be to stay FAR AWAY from something like that...go to 'regular' Yoga. You get all the wonderful
results, and don't have to worry about all those bad effects.

PS: If you hear about people losing lots of weight in only a week or two, it's NOT good. The body can only lose FAT at a rate of 1-2 pounds/week in a HEALTHY manner(2lbs. being at the high end of the spectrum). Any more than that and you're damaging your body and not losing FAT. Water, muscle, and nutrients are being lost.
