Ear candling?

I'm a big fan of homeopathic remedies. I'd rather use them any day over going to the DR. and being put on meds that have side effects.

I constantly have dry sinuses and dry mouth. I DRINK all day long...water, vitamin water...etc.

I have a nettle pot to do nasal rinses (sorry if this is gross to you , but I still get dry. I use a vaporizer and steamer...temporarily it works well, but then it goes back to dry.

So, I've tried everything that I can and yes, I've gone to my Dr's...every year 4 times a year for sinus pressure and pain. She gives me antibiotics and that's all good, but I hate the side effects of antibiotics.

Someone told me about ear candling. That they swear by it and it's amazing....clears out all the buildup and so the sinuses unblock.

Has n'yone tried this? and if so, did it work? I don't think I've ever seen them in the health food stores I go to, so where do I look into it?

Thank you!

Re: Ear candling?

My boyfriend, Father and sister all have used them.
I don't know about clearing your sinuses....they used it to clear the build up of wax. If my bf was awake right now, I'd ask him if it made a difference, but he's not.
Sorry I'm not much help. Just be careful if you try it, don't do it alone because they can be dangerous. (Fire hazard)

Re: Ear candling?

Ear candling is great for cleaning out wax build up in the ears, it wouldn't do anything for your sinuses though. It is really affective and it feels quite pleasant too. I remember a co worker of mine did it for her boyfriend and when she openened up the wax once she was done she found a fly lol

How gross is that?

Ruthie, For my sinuses I use nasacort, a prescription naisal spray, and it works for me. If you are interested, PM me and I get the exact name.

A fly? Eww....I think I've had nightmares like that. Poor guy...atleast he got it out.

Yeah, it's the sinus pressure, the dryness and also dry mouth. It's a bummer sometimes.

Re: Ear candling?

Please be careful with ear candling. Neither the FDA nor Health Canada recommend this because of the danger to burns, punctured ear drums, and wax from the candle actually blocking the ear canal.

It's Your Health - Ear Candling

When I get a build up of wax, my doctor flushes my ears out with water. The pressure flushes out the wax without injuring me.

Re: Ear candling?

Yeah....it's definetly a pro and con thing. Alot of people are for it and alot of people aren't.

I'll probably call my Dr. and have her clean out my ears and talk to her about ear candling. She's a cool Dr. that I've had for years and I know that she'd give me the scoop on it.

Re: Ear candling?

My dad did this about a month ago and almost burned the house down. I'm not joking. Now he using peroxide like Aprill said, and it works great. It just breaks up the wax in your ear, I don't think it would do anything for your sinuses.

Re: Ear candling?

We used to do this. It feels really good but, not so convinced on how effective it really is. I'm not sure if the stuff in the candle is earwax or melted wax. Some say it is earwax. Some say it's not.

My husband swears by ear candles. But he's a total vitamin/herb freak. I mean total.

Warmly,

Brandi

Re: Ear candling?

All natural saline nose sprays help my sinus pressure!
You might want to get an allergy test, many times allergies are the cause of sinus pain.

Oh and Ayr also has moisturizing saline gel that you can put in and around your nostrils

Re: Ear candling?

Thank you, ladies!! Watching that youtube.com video was enlightening.......I had never seen it done before.

I have this little Russian nurse that does homeopathic healing in her office. I go to her once a year for 4 sets of colonics.

She does do ear candling, too and has tried to get me to do it and I never have.

But, I gave in and made in appt. with my Dr. for tomorrow to clean out my ears, check for sinus infection and ask about sinus treatment.

Re: Ear candling?

I think ear candling has many benefits, other than the obvious one of clearing ear wax. Its supposedly improves headaches, and maybe even sinus too but I'm not sure. I haven't try it before, as I think its a little dangerous, like what if the practitioner accidentally poke the wrong inner part of my ear and I go deaf or something Probably sounds quite far fetched but its still at the back of my mind when I see people undergoing candling.

Re: Ear candling?

Ear candling is a big con for ear wax removal. All that comes out (all the gross stuff) is just candle wax. I'm not saying that ear candling isn't good for other problems, but it won't help you with ear wax problems. If ear wax is your issue, try hydrogen peroxide, or get your ears irrigated by a nurse/doctor. Both work great! For sinuses, a neti pot is fantastic! I've been much clearer since i started using one. I think it'd be much better too if I actually used it twice a day
