Mystery Metabolism?
So I'm curious if anyone on MUT was a skinny child, gained like 30 pounds when they hit puberty and then lost it all for no reason? My doctor thinks I'm anorexic, my parents threaten to punish me if I don't maintain a certain weight, and I have teachers and friends try and confront me about the weight loss because it's still coming off. I'm by no means too thin, I'm a size 1-5 depending on the brand of pants/ I don't diet or watch what I eat or exercise. Has anyone else gone through this and will I stop losing weight and how did you deal with your doctors?
I understand why it's hard to believe a healthy person gradually gained weight for 13 years then steadily lost it without intent. It's just really become an issue and it's a slap in the face when people think they're doing you a favor by intervening.
I'm 5'1" barely. I've grown an inch in the past 4 years.
At 13 years I weighed 130 - Involved in CC and Track year round
At 14 years I weighed 125 - Involved in Track summer only
At 15 years I weighed 120 - No exercising at all.
At 16 years I weighed 110 - No exercising at all.
And now I weigh 103 and I don't work out.
Help!

Re: Mystery Metabolism?
I was like that too. For me though, I got depressed and stopped eating pretty much for awhile and it stayed off for a long time. I lose weight easily and maybe you're like that too or maybe you've made changes that you don't realize because they've become such habits that help you keep weight off. It's not fair to you that they're labelling you with a mental disease but I can also see their concern but this seems to be happening pretty gradually though and you're not too thin for your height. I would just tell them that you appreciate their concern but that you're okay and still in a healthy weight range and aren't intentionally trying to lose weight.

Re: Mystery Metabolism?
Aww...try not to feel too bad! I'm 5'0".
At 13, I weighed 72 lbs.
At 14, I weighed 82 lbs.
By 18, I weighed 103 lbs.
By 20, I weighed 89 lbs.
By 25, I weighed 98 lbs.
Now, at 26, I weigh 112 lbs.
And now I'll probably start losing again (at least I hope so).
I think our bodies tend to self-regulate and fluctuate (ESPECIALLY during puberty). If you were a skinny child, gained a lot of weight when you first started puberty, and are now losing weight, it sounds like your body is just self-correcting until you weigh what is natural for you.
I really think it's quite natural for your weight to fluctuate as you grow, actually. Just make sure you eat healthy, and try not to let people's comments bother you too much!

I do eat.
It's not very fun to try and gain weight, it's not like you can eat whatever you want. It makes you feel sick.

Re: Mystery Metabolism?
I wish i weighed that much [103 pounds] like you.
For some people gaining weight is just as hard as losing it, i am trying to lose 5 pounds, and it is so hard, i wish i had that metabolism. Your parents or any other people can't blame you for having a faster metabolism than them or the rest of us, it is ok, plus, its not like you should weigh more than that, you're barely 5'1" so to me that is ok according to your height, i don't see a problem with you at all. You don't need help, plus IF you know you are eating normally, not being anorexic then you shouldn't worry at all!
I think the ones that may need help might be them. That could be also a weigh that suits your age, how old are you? 17-19?
You're still developing, this should be the last thing in your head at this point in life

I'm the same way. Of course my numbers arent that low lol! Mine always fluctuates from between 120 to 135. I don't mind though. I think you're fine. I'm 20 and i swear in the past 5 years i've gone from 115 to 170 and back. Like i said it still fluctuates but it has alot to do with my eating habits.

Re: Mystery Metabolism?
Maybe a part of it could be loss of muscle mass? Were you very muscular, or maybe you had more muscular when you ran track? I danced for most of my life, and within the past few years I had to stop (because of an injury). I went from being a normal 90-95 lbs(when dancing), down to around 85lbs from losing muscle.

I've brought that up to my doctor before, and they don't think I've lost muscle mass, at least not 30 pounds worth.
I weighed 130 for 6 months before I began running CC & Track. during my actual seasons, I only lost 7 pounds. When I stopped running I started shrinking, and I am still really toned.
Also in the past year or so my blood pressure & heart rate have gone up. I have a resting heart rate of about 115b/minute and they just found a benign heart murmur in May. Could my overactive heart be a contributor?
