Question 80th birthday ideas?

It's my nana's 80th birthday today and my mum has been asked to decorate the room we are hiring on Saturday, so I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas for decorations.
So far I've thought of candles on the tables with confettii and glitter.
Curling ribbon and silver and gold balloons on the wall.
We have a dance floor so we were thinking of just having balloons all over there and there is a disco ball, too.
Do you think there is anything else? It is sort of last minute.
We have also been asked to do something from all the grandchildren to give to her...
Never celebrated an 80th before...

That's awesome!! Hope she has a great itme!! How about giving her a small digital photo frame with all the grand kids photos already loaded up in it... The Kodak's are nice since you can program them to come on and turn off at certain times of the day.. So she can see everyone's photos all day long...

Re: 80th birthday ideas?

hmm. What about 3 or 4 weighted sets of helium balloons? I had that for my 21st and it really wasn't all that expensive. They make them up in sets of maybe 5 balloons per arrangement and put a weight on them. You can dot them around the dance floor.

The other thing you could do is get a big banner that says happy 80th on it - maybe google party supply stores and see if you can find someone close by that will have something in stock. If there's one close enough to visit then maybe pop in and get a few ideas?

That's a cool idea! We hadn't thought of that...

Helium balloons sounds cool and the birthday banner is a really good idea, I had forgotten about that. And we have a party hire store in town that we will be going to tomorrow.

Re: 80th birthday ideas?

If your pretty nifty with a computer why not scan old photos of her life on comp and make a digi scrap book/power point presentation (depending on what equipment you have available) for her.

You could burn it to cd and play it on a laptop for her there.

smilebox.com has some good free software for that kinda thing.

This is exactly what I was thinking while reading Roxie's post. I'm sure she would really like something like this.

That's a fantastic idea! She should really like something like that!

Re: 80th birthday ideas?

I believe she would prefer the photo-frame to the CD. Reason ? The CD suggests lots of pics. How pc savvy is Nana ?

Re: 80th birthday ideas?

She not all that great with technology... and her memory is sort of failing, too.
The cd is a good idea, but I think another lady is putting together a scrap book.
Mum has thought of getting a great big canves and all the grandchildren can paint a picture on it. Nana loves that kind of stuff.

Re: 80th birthday ideas?

Since she is getting out of date with progress...( don't we all) I suggest the Kodak to sort of be a "new" thing of today. The scrap book idea appeals, and I hope she will have the patience in a few years.
The painting will look good on her wall or as a sort of bed cover for her.
I hope she enjoys her birthday. She will only be eighty once, make it one for her and you to remember.
