Coming to CA next July, clothing, etc. advice needed :)
Me and my bf are going to CA July 09. I'm just wondering what sort of clothes we'll both need to wear if we wanted to go to the nightclubs. I mean, do you have to be really dressed up and trendy to get in? I never wear dresses and my bf prefers to wear things like Armani jeans and tees with a smart pair of shoes. That's acceptable here in UK but not sure about US.
Another thing I'm worried about is going into the designer boutiques and such...will I have to wear 'proper' clothes instead of my holiday shorts, flip flops...lol?. I keep getting visions of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman when they refused to serve her!
Also, what are the bus services and fares like? We have car hire but we're planning on trying some of the local things out just for the experience.
A couple of dumb questions but I like to be prepared lol. We're staying on Sunset Blvd., Ho. so advice about great clubs and stores would be greatly appreciated

Re: Coming to CA next July, clothing, etc. advice needed :)
Dress code depends on the club you decide to go to. Some places purposely go for a casual vibe. Many of the popular ones are "dress to impress" though. They're also a lot tougher on the guys. Girls can get away with just dark jeans, heels and a nice shirt if you don't want to wear a dress.
Flip flops are fine, but some people feel like they need to dress up in order to get respect in those stores. I've never had a problem.
Taking the bus really sucks in LA. I would not suggest it because all the weird/sketchy people are on the bus. I would strongly suggest renting a car. I have no idea what the bus fare is. You can look it up here: metro.net | Trip planning, transit services and information for Los Angeles county. They also have a trip planner.

I agree with Ashley.
Clubs is like how they would be in th UK. It just depends on what club you plan on going to and I agree they're more tuff on guys. A local joint in my town won't allow sneakers/trainers while the one next to it does. I wear nothing but jeans in the clubs I've been to... always dark though with a nice top and heels.
I dunno LA scene. I don't care how I look when I enter any shop even though I don't dress casually anyway when I do but I guess they ought to be used to many tourist in casual wear popping into the stores... I wouldn't worry about it. But dressing up to shop is a typical girly hing to do, aint it? Haha.

It just depends on where you are going.
We went to the Saddleranch in cute dresses but there were people in jeans- which makes sense because they have the mechanical bull to ride.
I've been to the Rainbow room and they may have let people in in jeans, but that is a rock themed joint with actual rock stars hanging out.
If you are going on Sunset- well, anywhere actually- then you just check the crowd out front and see how they are dressed and if you match, then get in line, lol!
As far as shopping; are you planning on shopping on Rodeo (Where the the Pretty Woman scene is)? If so, you will need to dress for a lot of the stores- some are even known to have buzzers to be let in and sometimes if you don't pass the face test, they will ignore the buzzer and not let people in.
If shopping in other areas, then you'll probably be fine- unless you are going into totally upscale boutiques. They may let you in, but you might feel horribly out of place when shopping with women who are fully dressed to the hilt.
Just ask the concierge at your hotel or ask the taxi driver (don't use the bus. Seriously.) where you can shop or what clubs are kicking (Errr although, I was just at the Hotel Angeleno near Santa Monica and no one there knew where anything was. In their own freaking town. Bah!).

We're going with Virgin and saw the multiple location holidays like yours but I don't know if I'll have enough money saved by then, only decided to go this week lol. We're definitely going to San Francisco and Vegas on a short haul flight, think the're $29 or something like that. We were planning on driving but it's 7 hours to Vegas in traffic lol :s
Are you going to Anaheim Disney?
Thanks for the site, I'll take a look

I have done a couple of multi centre holidays with Virgin Holidays but after pricing this one up i've decided to book it all myself works out about half the price of what Virgin were wanting
Have you thought about booking seperately? really does save you quite a bit. You can get flights to LA for between about £350-£600 depending on when you book and with what airline, we are wanting to fly with Virgin (my fave) atm flights for next year aint too cheap but they are always having sales, so fingerscrossed will get one for about £400-£450.
We are staying about 17 nights all all hotels will cost about £800 total (so only about £400 each)
Yes will be going to the Disney in Aanaheim , im a disneyholic. I want to visit every single Disney park in the world, though only done one so far.
Deffo take a look at that site, it has a wonderful amount of info, i've gathered quite a bit for my trip

Roundtrip flights from LA to SF and LV are not $29. It's probably more like $129.
And driving from LA to Vegas doesn't take 7 hours. Leave in the morning around 10 and you'll get there in a little under 4 hours.

I forgot to add this, we plan on flying out of Orange county airport to Vegas and back into San Diego costing around $140 each, you can get single airfares on the likes of Southwest & US airways from LA to Vegas for about $49-$59
