Post Do you think animal testing is bad?

When you pick up your shampoo or mascara, do you ever stop to see what kind or shampoo or mascara you are using? You could be supporting animal cruelty and not even know it. Today, many chemicals have been tested on innocent defenseless animals. I believe that animal testing should be banned because animals are also a living creature, its cruel, not very reliable, and proved to be unnecessary.
Like us, animals can feel pain and fear, but also excitement and satisfaction. Animals live, eat, breathe and bleed just like us human beings. They are here for the same reason we are here, to live and enjoy life. Not only that, they can be a person’s best friend. Animals enjoy what us human likes to enjoy such as basking in the sun, exercising, eating favorite delicious foods, and interacting with others. Animals also have rights as well and they shouldn’t be violated.
Animal testing is incredibly cruel. Hundreds of thousands of animals are poisoned, blinded, and killed every year by scientific experiments worldwide. Animals are used to test many products for shampoos, household cleaners, hairsprays, and other personal care and household items. The reason why scientists test their products on animals is to make sure that their products are safe before they are used by or on human beings. Because of this, many animals have suffered and died each year. Even though they are animals and not humans, they do have central nervous systems and feel pain, fear, depression and panic. I mean, dont you think if we were in their position, they would ban human testing? i really think so...

Re: do you think animal testing is bad?

I use shampoo, conditioner, soap and other products of the brandFaith in Nature. My make up is Nivea or Avon, because they dont test in animals, but unfortunately, I think they use animal ingredients...

In cosmetics I agree that animal testings should be ban.

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

I will sound like a hypocrite here but here go's................. I dont agree with or understand animal testing because animals and humans have a different genetic make-up to each other so how testing hairspray etc on an animal helps to see what reaction it will have on a human i will never understand. We should test our products for our use on us and animal products on animals. I do use products on myself that have been tested on animals and I admit that I never check the labels before I buy a product. I feel this is a debate that will last forever and ever all over the world and is something that is difficult for most people to comment because, like myself, although i dont agree with it I do use the products.

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

I probably do unfortunately . I rarely check the labels. I would definitely prefer to buy products not tested on animals. with all the technology we have today I dont see why its still being done.

Yup and make sure that you respect everyone's opinion on it...no matter whether it is, or is not to your liking

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

My personal opinion is it is wrong to test products on animals, they are sensitive beings that don't deserve the cruel tests we do on them. I also believe it is not something we should be proud of. A society is also judged on how it treats animals.

However, i realise the limits of this statement for "more sensitive" subjects, such as meds. Because in that case, the first tests are performed on animals, only the final tests are performed with humans, and frankly i don't see how we can change that. For cosmetics you have alternative ways, for meds, i don't think there is. You can stop using the products of a certain brand as a form of protest, but when it comes to meds, and possibly your life, you have no choice but to take the meds, even if you know it took several mice to get it to work.

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

I agree with Katapilla and Mag on this one. I, whole heartedly, agree that it's a horrible thing and it should have its limitations. As an example: NASA is conducting an experiment 'on humans' to see how our muscle mass responds to 90 days of bed rest. These people are volunteering for a price of, oh I think $17,000 or so, correct me if I'm wrong. My point is that there are, surprisingly, a lot of people who'd be willing to be experimented on. So, instead of using animals as test subjects for makeup, hair spray, etc... people will be willing to put themselves on the line here. The only glitch in this case is that animals don't ask for a price, it's you're going to do it whether you like it or not! It's an unfortunate and unfair yet necessary, to an extent, procedure that will continue throughout the world. We can always voice our opinions and fight for their rights but I honestly don't think things will change. **sigh** Thanks for the post.

I agree. I can't stand that they do animal testing but I know that some of the medical testing may one day save my childs life. Not many parents are also going to be willing to put their child up for testing as some tests for children do not work the same on adults. It's not something to be proud of but unfortunately I don't think it's something that's going to change anytime soon.

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

I do think that animal testing is wrong and I try to buy products from companies that don't test on animals. But at the same time, I like using products that are good, cheap and works........ so I do end up buying brands that do test on animals a lot of times...

I do the same thing often as far as brands go. when it comes to makeup I do tend to buy the better (maybe not better) but pricier products. I couldnt say with any certainty though that they do not do animal testing.

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

Hmmm.

Animal testing on medication has meant I'm still alive today.

However, for cosmetic purposes I don't think there's any need to use animals at all.

That's all the detail I'm willing to go into.

I really don't understand the whole animal testing thing. Why test on animals??? If the product you are making is meant for humans why not test on humans??

Re: Do you think animal testing is bad?

Hi,

When it comes to animal testing in general we use it to prove scientific claims. so that would be the reason behind it. like testing and trying to find a cure for "cancer" it seems to me that we test animimals to find cures more then looking for the problem.
As far as makeup goes, i dont wear any and use organic shampoo mostly but if I used makeup and the better usuable ones did animal testing in the past then i dont know if i would stop using it. because there better right?

Peace
