I don't get much offended but annoyed when I tell people I'm Salvadorean AND Cuban, they automatically go "so, hey - what about Fidel?"

It's like Cuba is synonymously known because of Fidel, might be so, but it's just annoying. Not offensive, just annoying. Being Cuban is part of who I am but I don't really identify with the culture much - I'm more rooted in my Salvadorean side... so when people crack jokes about Fidel and ask if I worship him, it's just ridiculous.

Other than that, I don't find much things offensive because I usually don't relate to the subject.

um, yes. When everyone thinks that we're retards and criminals who screw sheep or have kangaroos in our back yards... and that we ALL say 'g'day mayte' and have corks hanging from our hats and stuff.

Seriously irritates me. LOL

I agree. Nothing irritates me more than people thinking we are uncultered/ unintelligent bogans. Or they all think we have that twangy over accentuated accent like Crocodile Dundee/Steve Irwin. You'll find some of us actually have quite polished accents.

I also don't like the way the tourism industry puts Australia out there, they're responsible for a lot of the above misconceptions. For example, Lara Bingle actually doesn't have an obnoxious sounding accent, though she went and bunged on that really occa accent for the tourism commercials enticing people to come to Australia. It's embarassing.



My grandparents on my mothers side are Polish and Ukranian. (On my fathers side are Aussies and Brits) .When that comes out in conversation, I find it annoying when people then say "Oh Bec's Polish or Bec's Ukranian" No. I am AUSTRALIAN with Ukranian/Polish HERITAGE.

I have a friend that makes a lot of racial jokes against lebanese/greeks/Italians and she'll refer to them as "wogs". If this particular friend makes a joke about them she'll then go to me "oh..no offence to the Ukraine! Hahaha" Thinking it's really funny...thanks, I really like being called a wog, especially since I'm not, hence my first point.

did you see the new marc jacobs ads? they're boy's in dresses. or really really boyish looking girls. but i'm sure its boys....closest thing to a movie? i dont know...its too early for this

Not usually in movies, but I do get annoyed that people often assume I am the babysitter. My husband is white and I am mixed, but very much look Latina(my dad is Mexican). My last kid is the only one who remotely looks like me.

I wasn't offended, but I did think this lady was real stupid. I was shredding cheese to make lasagna, and a woman had come by from the pet store to look at a huge bird cage my husband was trying to sell. Even though I have sauce, noodles, my lasagna pan out, she still asks, "Making tacos?"

Generally when people make stupid comments I just think they're stupid. Luckily really offensive, racist things haven't happened too often in my life.

I get kind of offended when someone will just walk up to me and start speaking a different language (assuming that I understand what they're saying). And it's always either: spanish, italian, or french. I just get annoyed, because if there's any language someone should assume I could speak fluently, it should be english. Because that's the only language I speak LOL!

No I haven't seen it... Thanks... Its not often TG folks are presented as anything other than a victim of a hate crime or a joke on TV or in the movies.. But hey... It goes with the hobby... Guess I should have stuck to colecting stamps....

It annoys me when people from other countries say Americans are fat or stupid or when they assume we all like country music and wear Levi's and cowboy hats. lol!

And, as far as religion...I'm a Christian, and my beliefs are very important to me. So it's frustrating when people misrepresent Christianity and Christian beliefs (as found in the Bible).

I have been offended by stereotypes, but more based on people just being ignorant, not on movies or politics or whatever. I am mexican and irish scott. (I know.. that is a weird combo.) And here where I live, many Mexicans are migrant workers who work on farms and speak very little, if any English. So, ignorant people have asked me if any of my family work in the fields, or if my family is legal or whatever. And then I get it from the other end- the latinos who find out I am part mexican and don't speak spanish. Some people get all offended and try to accuse me of being ashamed of my roots. I am just like whatev, I just never learned it and neither did my mom! Not because I didn't want to, but because the spanish speaking portion of my fam lives in MO or MEXICO!!! ARGH!!

As for REGIONAL stereotypes, i am from the deep south... Redneck, cowboy, hillbilly, racist, KKK, country bumpkin, dumb as dirt.... these are a
few examples of the way some people think of people who have a deep southern accent automatically. People generalize entirely too much!

I've had people ask me if I like to drink a lot because of my native American ancestry. I even had one fool ask me if his scalp was safe. How ignorant! Just because some fool saw a doc u mentary or a movie about indians drinking or going on the warpath.

I'm not full blooded indian though and to some this means that I am just white. I am proud of my native blood, African American blood, and everything else that rolls through my veins. I've done a lot of genealogy research and I know how hard my family fought to be seen as just white so that they would be treated better. Sad.
