Night Terrors?

Wow, I had the worst night last night!
I had a really awful nightmare that was so bad I woke up shouting and had to get my boyfriend to turn the light on for me!
I haven't had a nightmare that bad for about 2-3 years now!

Basically, I was back living at home with my parents but in a kind of villa. I got home from somewhere and when I tried to walk up the steps to the front door I couldn't. My legs just gave out under me. So I was sat on the cobbles and waited until I saw my dad walk past the front door and shouted him to help me.
Then I woke up, or so I thought. I was back in my flat but something felt, wrong. Then I heard this horrible whispering noise and when I looked around there was this creepy apparition that looked like it was woven of a sickly green mist. It said something to me that I didn't understand and I started to shake my boyfriend, telling him to turn the light on because there was something in the room with us. Then I noticed another one, this one a sort of yellow vapour.
I told my boyfriend again to turn the light on and he turned over, but not in a human motion. It was like, one moment he had his back to me and the next he just didn't. His eyes were just all white and there was this horrible hissing noise that I could feel rather than hear and then this thing had me pinned down by my throat with both hands.
I started trying to shout or scream or do something, but I couldn't.. I couldn't even move.
Then it just stopped, and I thought I had woken up... so I turned to my boyfriend again. I don't remember what I said but it still wasn't my boyfriend and it attacked me again. This time I could move and I was trying to scratch at its eyes and scream...
I had this horrible feeling that I had to wake myself up or I wouldn't wake up at all. Kind of like how people say if you die in your dream, then you die in the waking world too? So I was struggling to get away and then I did wake up. Right after I got my voice back and was screaming in my dream, I sat up in bed shouting in reality.
I couldn't sleep for about three hours after that, I was absolutely convinced something was waiting for me in my sleep.

So, yeah.... long post (sorry), but I thought you'd get it a bit better if I explained. So, have any of you had dreams like this? Where you know you're dreaming and you have this overwhelming urge that you HAVE to wake up?

I am so tired, I've had about three and a half hours sleep because I was so freaked out I was trying to make myself stay awake!

=[

Re: Night Terrors?

Oh you poor thing, that sounds incredibly frightening! I would have had trouble sleeping after that too.

I did have a dream once kinda similar to the one you were just talking about. My neighbor is a social worker and she used to work in the mental health unit at a hospital. She had come over to my house after work and was telling me about a patient that she was currently seeing (for legal/ethical reasons she couldn't tell me his name) So she dubbed him "Ned". This guy had come in and was convinced he was posessed and after spending the day with him, she was almost convinced too! lol Anyways, he was 'possessed' by this guy with a really old school posh english accent and he would "come out" of Ned occasionally. During one of his assessments they were trying to come up with solutions as to how to treat what was going on. One of the nurses jokingly suggested an exorcism. Ned is sitting there and this person inside him goes "You won't get rid of me that way!" and then went back to normal and Ned starting talking about something else. Spooked the crap out of everyone!

So.. onto my dream. That night I am asleep and my mind is blank, all of a sudden this voice starts talking to me, and it was the person inside of Ned. He told me he didn't want to be with Ned anymore and that when I wake up, he will be inside my mind. I could feel myself in my dream becoming incredibly distressed, not wanting to wake up as I was starting to freak out about this guy taking over my mind and really struggling to stay asleep, I could feel myself starting to wake up and when I did wake up, I woke up screaming because I thought I had been possessed! It took me a good few minutes to calm myself down and realise I was perfectly fine and it was just a nightmare, but omg, that was an incredibly frightening dream! (and this is an incredibly long post lol)

So I am feeling you on creepy dreams! I hope you get a better nights sleep tonight! *hugs*

Re: Night Terrors?

eek, guys, these are totally freaky dreams! it must be the time for it, I had one 2 or so nights ago, I dreamt I was living in a tiny little house, on 2 levels, a show-house of hello kitty, and people could come and see the lower level, but not come upstairs where we slept.

Well, someone came to the house and was quite distressed. I went downstairs to speak to them about something, and when I went back upstairs, there was blood all over the bathroom and the distressed person, who had come with me, said that my housemates had been taken by the Nazis (but I knew they'd been killed), and I was going to be taken away as well, it turned out they were with 'the bad guys'.

Totally creepy, from the tiny little house, to the blood all over the floor... *shudder*

Re: Night Terrors?

That's super freaky Bec! I can understand your subconscious creating something from a story that obviously had an impact on you. Don't you hate subconscious thoughts! I'd love to blame my dream on that but there was nothing to really trigger me having it. I really do thing there's a point in life where you can't explain things though because it simply goes beyond human comprehension.

I used to have somewhat similar dreams in my ex-boyfriend's house, but I was convinced that place was haunted. I woke up screaming there a few times, once my screaming woke my ex up before it did me and he said he thought he could see something pinning me down. I didn't go back to sleep that night either!
Haha, maybe I do actually have an unfriendly spirit paying me visits!
More than likely though, it's due to recent events. I've been pretty stressed out and dealing with a lot, that would probably make more sense. But even now, haha, some part of me still thinks it was something else. But I've always been quite open to the possibility of the 'other world'

hmmm, I have to go to work now. I'll probably fall asleep while I'm there.
It's just so distressing when you become aware that you're only dreaming and you want to wake up but you're powerless to!
Weird!

Re: Night Terrors?

these sound so scary!! i live in an old converted hospital and it's supposed to be super haunted! a few weeks ago we had a really spooky night when it was really windy and the whole flat got really creepy. i slept but not well, and my friend woke up in the night and there was a figure stood next to his bed! sooo scary.

i can't remember any of my nightmares, i don't have them often.

Re: Night Terrors?

That's awful! I have only had one once. I don't even remember the dream. I woke myself and my husband up with my screams.

Re: Night Terrors?

I used to have the same bad dream repeatedly but it wasn't like a night terror. I did have a roommate in my early 20's that had night terrors. He would scream a lot and you could tell he was absolutely terrified. One night he actually dove through his bedroom window in fear... a closed one. He woke up after he went through the window and was very confused. It was scary for him and for all of the roommates because you never knew when it was gonna happen and he always became violent spawned by massive fear. I always wondered what was inside of him to cause that to happen. Made me sad for him but still very apprehensive.

Re: Night Terrors?

I can't say i've had any of those nightmares since i was a kid, although i still have very vivid dreams nowadays. The worst i think was one that kept coming back almost every night, and i was tired trying not to fall asleep then falling asleep but not resting because i had to fight that bad guy in my dreams (something between Dracula and Dr Frankenstein with you as the subject under experimentation). It went on for a year until i had enough courage to cast him away.
I can't remember precisely but my mother told me many times i managed to wake her up (and my father) by screaming for help.
