Lastnight, as I was getting my dog out of the car outside my home, I held on to her as she didnt have her leash on, well, she's a strong lab, and I lost my grip and she ran around the neighbood, she's done this b4 and I always manage to get her back but lastnight, I went inside to get her treat to get her to come back, but she went further and futher, so mum and I got in the car, looking for her for almost 3 hours. We left the gate open incase she decides to come back. Well this morning, still no sign of her, so I went to the vet place, called a few places. Finally I went to the SPCA. I was so not prepared to see what I saw, I was speechless, they had over at least 50 dogs and there was dog vomits, shit everywhere, most of the dogs look terrified. I just cried as I walked around to find my dog, but no luck. Driving home, I couldnt get the picture out of my head, these poor dogs behind cage 24/7. I even asked one of the gaurd, how often their cages get cleaned, he said once every hour, I looked at him thinking my a**!!, I could kil these people who work there. I honestly thought SPCA was more like their second home where they're taken care off,taken for walks, clean food and water, played with but it's nothing like how I imagined. I've put posters everywhere about my missing dog, I pray someone will come forward. She's a black pure bred lab. She isnt trained, and unfortunatley, I didnt have any tags on her. Please pray I'll get her back soon. I'm hoping she'll find her way back soon as she hasnt lived in this neighbood long.

When your lab returns, consider getting her microchipped. The chip will have all your information in case she runs away again, the shelter will scan her neck and see that she does have a home.

The humane society in my community is quite clean and the dogs are walked by volunteers. But shelters can always use more blankets, bowls and toys for the animals.

Don't get down honey, your puppy will be back soon.

The humane society where I live is also very well taken care of. That being said, it probably has gone downhill now since in Calgary there is a huge shortage of workers. If they are having to close down restaraunts because they can't find staff to run it, then I doubt they can find some one to volunteer at a humane society.

Maybe consider to volunteer at that shelter so that you can make sure things are going to be done properly? That way you can teach people how to do things properly.

Tags are important... I'm always returning stray dogs that wander into our yard if they have atleast a phone number on their collar....
