They confiscated my MU and lotions (airport)

two lip gloss gels, two bottles of sunblock lotions, a bottle of perfume gievn me by mom for christmas one year, two bottles of lootion..a bottle of patchouli which will be hard to find and replace, the other was red bi giorgio...luckily i still have a big bottle of red here at home. When I jad to fly back home from honolulu, they took my almost brand new foundation and eye conecaler with almost derisive laughs. I said politely, "look, I wasn't watching TV much at all...all I knew was we were not allowed to have drinks like bottles of water or coke on the carry ons." they also took a bunch of nail polisjes Id brought too. I even asked the stupid f**king baggae people if I needed to stash some stuff on my baggae to go in the airplan and not in my carry ons and they were stupid and said no. This woman was so offhand about it she chunkced my stuff in the garbage and I said "look you guys are tossing out like 80 to 120 dollars or more of my stuff some of it is old but some of it is brand new.' the chic that did it said , "yah so what? you shouldn't have brought it." I swore at her..."and who the f**k are you?!" peop[le turned around and stared. "What do you mean so what? What if it was yout things being tossed out? i had no idea makeup was considered dangerous. I am going to report you for your rudeness and I don't care if you have four kids to feed.' All of a sudden the woman becomes really apologetic but it was rude as ****. i got sent through a line twice when i had already been cleared once. I can't say "Oh ill never travel again," but I am developing an aversion to flying because they treat us all like criminals. I wore flip flops to the airport and they made me take them off. The woman who searched me was a smartmouth (rhymes with hunt) as well. Her face was laden with zits and she chucnked my makeup out deliberately on the table. "so your tossing out my MU?" i asked pointedly and added " and you need that sh** too, I bet you are taking it home." She said "excuse me?" and I said "oh nevermind, nothing." I was singled out and harrassed in motown last winter and I am usually nothing but polite to the staff gbut I am getting so fed up...in both cases the people whop were supposed to be just doing a job made dersivive smartass comments and I was so angry. i don't usually get that mean mouthed ewith people who are just getting a paycheck so forgive me. i think the excess searches and smarky tones were rascism, I am white/caucasian and the woman who searched me in motown, the women who were rude to me in hawai'i were asian/native hawaiian. i guess to fly quickly and safely,
I can't wear a metal belt. and how many blets really have no metal?
I can't wear any pants with rivets.
I can't wear my sunglasses into the airport.
The people who are handling these jobs are total jerks, they treat one a bit subhuman. I have been made to stand like a starfish and be patted down by people like 3 or 4 times now for nothing worse than wearing clothes with metal snaps or a ***damned belt. To add insult to injury, they ask me the same thing over and over "anything in your pockets?" "no," i spit, "dig them out and pat me down! I have nothing! Can't you just let me depart in peace?!"
Well that's me sharing my little rant. I have not traveled extensively but my moms side of the family lives 600 miles away so im no stranger to travels. Going to the islands was the farthest I have been from home. i am not rich, i am not even employed...(I get a check for disability and am a trasnplant patient so save the jibes and jeers about me being lazy or whatever) I have been bitten by a serioud traveling bug but my messed up experiences in hawai'i and detroit are making me wanna just sit at home. it sucks to be discouraged when i never minded flying beofre. Now I can't even have my family or husband wait for me right at my departure gate, I have to walk and walk to see them at the baggae claim. sounds like a silly complaint but omg If Im flying out to see you, I love you & don't wanna miss a minute.
now i don't have much makeup and i have no clue on how to replace patchouli lotion. thankfully my face is somewhat clear today.
i had to rant and I felt this was the proper forum, i know somone out there will be like 'oh that sucks" or "hey they did that to me here recently." Thanks for letting me vent about the BS of heightened security, make up talk. I think it's bullish....i mean, how is my bottle of foundation gonna kill us all? oh yeah, and i was searched twice and when a MAN serached me the 1st time he let me keep everything but my nailpolishes. The catty f**king b****es!

thank god i dont travel on airplanes much. it is a pain though. im sure i'd freak out too if i got that kind of treatment.

Sorry you went through that, but I would much rather have the airline people be safe than sorry. Not saying you're a criminal or that you deserve to be treated as you were, but I also know they are just trying to protect people. They don't know who has what when getting on the plane, an elderly grandmother could be carrying explosive material. JMO!

OMG, your story making me hates an airplane more than ever now.
Well it's understandable if we're not allow to bring MU for security reason, but it's not OK to keep the goodies for themselves.

Personally, I am happy to take off my sandals, not carry shampoo and follow the rules as they rules are there to keep us all safe from idtiots who think it's cool to mix things to make bombs on planes.

It was very annoying...of course, next time put your make up in your checked luggage.

I just got back from California...I had a cooler pack in a cooler bag that was filled with carrots, broccoli, etc because we don't eat the foods that they have at the airport. Going from Chicago to San Diego, it wasn't a problem, they just checked everything and let me through. But on the way back, they took away my Cooler Pack but let me keep the Children's Benadryl and Campo Phenique. :

Then, they don't let you take water in...I don't know why...you can't take watrer on the plane either. So, I had to guzzle my water at the security point (I was thirsty anyways) and then buy another bottle to drink while we were waiting for our flight. Finished that bottle, got on the plane and got ONE small airline glass of ice and water for a 4 hour flight!! Why? Because they ran out of water. Yes, they had only 6 bottles of water for an entirely PACKED flight of a 747. Nice. On the flight back, I asked if I could purchase one of the big bottles...the answer was No...but if they ran out again, I could drink the endless amounts of pop they do have (or juice). Neither of which I like. Never mind that I am 6 1/2 months preggers. grrrrrrrrrr....

I'm sorry...but this is all bull. Terrorism is NOT about blowing planes up, etc. It's about making people scared. It's pshychological. And everytime we alter our way of life because of stuff like this, we give the terrorists more power. Aside from the fact that they'll be "on alert" for a few months and before you know it...they'll still have all these restrictions but no one will follow them. You know...if terrorists really wanted to bomb a plane...they would do it. They're not stupid. We run around in fear that they "may" do something gives them more pride and power than just laughing and flipping them off on our merry way.

I too stay away from flying for the fear of all of my precious stash being thrown out. I feel it is better to be safe than sorry and these people are just doing their job...but there is absolutely NO NEED TO BE RUDE! Mean people suck!! A good idea might be to get small travel sized containers (The Container Store has good ones) fill them w/your stuff and send it to where you're going ahead of time if that is an option. Terrorism has dictatred too much of our lives but we always have to remember 9/11 and the times before and after that-that have hurt or killed many people.

I was in BWI, trust me the security is the tightest there cuz its the closets to the white house. YOU should have researched on the aiport web page to see what is not alowed. I mean they were jerks to you cuz you didn't make the effort to go check and see what was not and what was allowed. There pissy cuz ur making the job harders. No offense, just pay attention, play ahead, and research! next time!

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience! I sooo do not wanna fly right now. I hate checking luggage b/c i'm afraid it will get lost and I don't want my makeup being damaged from them tossing my bags around. Grrr!

Why would you not just put questionable stuff in your check in bags? That's what I do when I carry any of my guns on planes. I just check them in.

people, people, thats why you get a REALLY big bag and pad and protect everything. While I was on Vacatin the this whole terrosit thing happend and on my carry on I had all my MU. So on the way back I padded my suitcase with bubble wrap and wrapped my MU up in my clothes since I couldn't take it on board w/me. That worked out just fine. I mean, if u cant live w/out ur lipstick/or gloss while ur on a plane......well..........thats just sad.....
