Wander lust
Traveling. Do you like traveling? Why or why not?
For me, on occasion, while growing up, I have had the chance to escape Alaska to Mexico’s rich culture. That trip alone nourished my wander lust. There I was able to experience a whole new world. I was introduced to wonderful people, beautiful architecture, and food that made you wallow in gluttony. This new world made me ponder the possibilities—what other cultures are out there? So, I began my adventures. I have traveled to over ten states and two countries. All of which I have picked up a few hobbies from such as: scuba diving, dancing, and wine tasting. If you like traveling (or dislike), what cultivated it? how did it begin? |

Re: Wander lust
I adore travelling. My grandparents live in england so we would go back and visit them every 2-3 years when I was little, visiting other countries in the area too. I grew up thinking it was a fairly normal thing to do.
When we stopped going as often, when I was around 13 years old, I used to look up at the planes in the sky and wish it was as easy to just jump on a plane and fly away - I realised it was a luxury that most people work very hard to do. So, yes, I love it. I love europe most of all. Greece, Italy, France and Switzerland being my absolute favourites... I love the history and the culture. Bearing in mind how much I love history, I'm in the wrong country!

Re: Wander lust
I absolutely loveee traveling, from a very young age my parents took me on holidays around the world atleast once a year and i have been lucky enough to experience the finest and most unique cultures of the world!
My favourite destination so farr is Thailand tho! So traditional in all aspects! (I loveddd how they said Sawasdekaa almost everywhere i went, it brought in such an oriental vibe!) The people there are soo nice and friendly, the food is divineee, and the oriental music and traditional housing and hand made everythings just top it off! And on my recent trip i became very fammiliarised with the native massage and herbal treatments for the mind, body and soul....especially the skin tho! but i guess these days they have commericalised countries so much for more tourism, they show you only the lavish side of life in that country. So its hard to get a feel for the real culture...but if you dig deep enough and research more, it is possible to experience life as a native in some far away foreign land But Yea, Thailand started me off! Next im thinking...Egpyt, Brazil, Vietnam, Russia...Weoww! haha |

Re: Wander lust
i love travelling. i love the excitement before the departure, all the things to do, and the discovery of a new town, new school, new local traditions, new everything. mind you, i've only visited Italy once (on the frontier so it's not really Italy) and London, so it's not much travelling.
but my dad had to move frequently because of his job, so i grew up moving every 3 years or so. it's an eye opener and it's always exciting to discover new things.

Re: Wander lust
Me too.. Me too!! I think when I took my first plane trip on an old DC-3 from Detroit to Houston when I was 6 that started it for me... And then at 10 we took a long train trip which was super exciting.. I still love trains.. Matter of fact were going camping in 2 weeks and plan to take a train trip..... A short senic train through Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley National Park..
Before we had kids we would just hop in the car and drive anywhere... Maine... Canada.. Florida... California... Of the lower 48 there's only 3 states I haven't been in... Hew Hampshier, Washington and Oregon... We will be going to the NW next year I hope... I've also been to Mexico numerous times, Spain, Morroco and Australia... A few years ago we threw the kids in the van and drove for 3 days out to South Dakota... Hit all the major parks.. Montana, Wyoming.. Utah, Arazona, New Mexico... A big U out and back... 6,500 miles in 2 and a half weeks.. I also travel a lot for work.. Probably heading to Wyoming, Montana and Nevada here next month... I love traveling...

Re: Wander lust
I also love traveling. As a child I recall my parents driving out to BC and Ontario for vacations and I loved seeing different places.
My first big vacation.. I received a bonus at work, this was about 10 years ago, and decided to put that money towards a trip to Hawaii. I saved for 6 months and spent two weeks there. I absolutely loved it. I did the touristy things but also wanted to experienced the people and Hawaiian culture. After that I made a trip to Mexico (Puerto Vallarta), Southern Caribbean Cruise, and one more trip to Hawaii. I did touristy things on these trips as well but I also like to experience the culture and people on any vacation I go on. Instead of buying touristy souvenirs I try to bring back something that is more unique such as a hand made or craft item from that area. One day I hope to visit Australia and the South Pacific Islands such as Tahiti, Cook Islands etc. Europe is also on my list. |

Re: Wander lust
I love traveling - just anywhere new or old. Even though I've been up and down the coast of California, it's still good to get away and discover new things. I don't mind doing tourist things, I don't take those opportunities for granted - I like learning. I know a lot of my friends and family aren't into that.
Unfortunately, it really is a luxury for my family to be going. I've only been out the country once (El Salvador, and one day trip to Mexico) and to 2 different states (Nevada, Hawaii). Because my sister has to get around in a wheelchair so a lot has to go into if they accommodate for her and my parents are bores! They complain about everything... I'm saving up so I can go more often. Next year, I've been promised a lot of traveling - so hopefully I'll be in Europe next Summer.

Re: Wander lust
who doesn't love to travel?! i love it, & i'm so eager to see different parts of the world..unfortunately i haven't been many places yet. i have a list of places i want to go; miami, chicago, cali, texas, mexico, china, etc. i'm a very curious person so that leads to me wanting to travel! i've only been to the beach once in my whole life! lol
i agree with you darla...traveling is ecspecially expensive this year, due to high gas prices & airfare rates are really high too!

Re: Wander lust
I don't think i would mind visiting more areas but i personally hate traveling. All the packing and unpacking, the weather not being right, places being closed, all the planning ahead just makes it unpleasant for me.
