21 WorldEndeavors & Internships?

Here in oz, internships are not really that huge of a thing. Hardly any university degrees require students to complete an internship, so really, I don't really know much about it.

I know it's a lot more common in the US, and I was wondering if anyone had heard of worldendeavor.com before? it's a company that specializes in organising internships in various countries, including:

Australia
Brazil
China
Costa Rica
Ecuador
England
France
Ghana
Guatemala
India
Ireland
Italy
Jamaica
Mexico
Nepal
New Zealand
Northern Ireland
Philippines
Scotland
Spain
Tanzania
Thailand

Soooo... yeah. It's quite expensive but bearing in mind the places that I want to go, I will need intensive language lessons, which is offered as part of the service (80 hours a month), as is assistance with getting visas, help in organising accomodation, an english speaking person on hand in your new home city to talk to if anything goes wrong, free cell phone rental and free incoming calls, and lots of events and trips to help you meet people and settle in.

I'm interested to see if anyone has heard of these people, if any of you have used them, or if you've used a similar company?

If you did an internship, where did you do it? did you organise it yourself?

sorry this is so long! it's a really big decision so I want to be as informed as possible, and you guys ALWAYS have the answers! TIA!

well, i don't have any advice, but if you come to France, i'll lend you my french grammar books

worldendeavor sounds nice, especially considering langage lessons and help are provided.

Is it like studying abroad? Because I'm not familiar with the whole internship thing besides doing medical clinicals...

Re: WorldEndeavors & Internships?

it's like... job placement with a company in your field. I have to do 330 hours. At my uni you pretty much have to find them yourself, so it's hard to get somewhere good unless you have contacts.

One of the girls I know is doing hers at the Australian Tennis Museum (bo-ring!) I want to do mine in europe, or at the very least, somewhere super exciting!

Just come to Britain so you don't have to learn another language

Re: WorldEndeavors & Internships?

Oh, okay. My cousin did that... he went from El Salvador to Australia for school/work and ended up staying there longer because I think they offered him a job in his field, I believe. My mom talked briefly about it because he came over some years ago and I didn't get to meet him, so I dunno much about what his whole process was.

I think you should go for it - you might like it and end up doing your career wherever you're at.

Re: WorldEndeavors & Internships?

That sounds interesting! I've heard of people from other countries going to America on internships but not really going to other countries.

Re: WorldEndeavors & Internships?

From what I've seen in the US there are summer interns and co-op interns... The first being just over the vacation period, more like a summer job in your field... and the co-op being for a semister or a whole year.. My daughters degree required an internship and I know the university keeps a list of potential local companys that will accept interns.. This summer I got her a summer intern job at one of our subsideraries.... An industrial supply company.. Which is the field she's going into.. But she will still have to do her semister internship some times in the next year and a half...

And other than help from the school, friends and relatives, your pretty much on your own trying to find an internship here..
