your job: like or dislike
i've been working since i was 13, in the restaurant business, and i had no problems going to work (worked weekends) and actually loved it. i'm 18 now and i dread going to work every day. i started working full-time in may, my first full-time job, and thought it was such a nice change and i felt really independent. now, i HATE it. i don't know if i just hate working or if it's just what i do (waitressing) and the kinds of people i deal with. don't get me wrong. there are LOTS of customers i love, but then lots of them just hit my last nerves and are the rudest people alive. i don't know if it's because i hate seeing the same things every day, doing the same things every day, seeing my co-workers every day (nothing wrong with them, but some people i just can't do that with) or what.
sometimes i get scared that i'll feel this way the rest of my life, that i'll just dread what i'm going to face every day. then, i think, i'm in college (first year), i can do what i wanna do and love.
does anyone else hate what they do? who loves what they do?
sorry about the venting. i just needed to get it out.
p.s. this makes me think of chandler from friends, when he decides to quit what he does and start in the advertisiting business and they all tell him they love their jobs LOL trisha, marisol, you know what i'm talking about

I work in retail and I'm also a Mary Kay consultant. For the most part I really like my jobs, but there are those days when I really want to quit...and the Christmas season is not even started yet.

Re: your job: like or dislike
I know how you feel!!! I started working when I was 14 and I just got out of the service industry last year. For the longest time I didn't think I could get out, I sent resumes for office jobs and everything. I was only able to get out of the service industry (retail!) when I signed up at a temp agency. My office job isn't perfect and I certainly don't plan on making a career out of it, but it is much better than retail. I just need to keep it until I can support myself doing art and sculpture.

Re: your job: like or dislike
I've been working since I was 15... started in retail at 5-7-9 in the mall... worked my way into cutting hair, then onto insurance, an office assistant for an aerospace lighting company, a tanning salon, and now back to insurance! lol I like it for the most part. It can get stressful sometimes, but I guess that comes along with most jobs, right? lol

Re: your job: like or dislike
I've had jobs in the past that made me miserable (office assistant positions), but now I work as a MAC makeup artist. I love the company & enjoy working in such a fast paced environment where I interact with people from all walks of life. I feel I'm learning new things every day, becoming a better communicator and artist. There are some aspects that I don't particularly care for (sales goals, opening CCs), but as a whole, I feel very blessed to have a job that I love.

Re: your job: like or dislike
I have been working ever since I got out of high school. I got my first paid internship at 19 with a major financial company, because I thought I wanted to be a Financial Analyst. The experience would look good on my resume when I got out of college. The micro-managing drove me nuts. I hated it.
Then came my paid internship with Estee, HEAVEN!!! I just loved it. I had the best boss. Literally took me under his wing. He taught me so much about the packaging, marketing, advertising, what goes into a product, how they choose the right person to represent the company, everything. So many perks came with that position, I can't even list them all, but the endless amount of free products, parties, and meeting people were my top 3. Seeing something start from scratch and end up this beautifully designed and wonderfully created product was just so exciting. They told me come back when you get you're degree. I have yet to get my degree, but I do still keep in contact with my former boss and he still gets on me about it. At this moment, he is in Italy working on something and I could have been right along side him if I hadn't procrastinated. I went back earlier this year to keep my face/name in their heads and was asked again if I had finally earned my degree, sadly no. 12 or so credits to go.
Currently, I am running the family commercial contracting business, along with our real estate investments which keeps me very busy since my family has been away for almost 4 months. I enjoy what I do immensely and love the new challenges each day. Beating a deadline is a great feeling and so is the bonus that comes with it. Tearing something apart and rebuilding it into something new that thousands of people will have access to each day, knowing you had a hand in it, is awesome. I will eventually go back to school, but I don't know if I would want to give this up. I am my own boss and everyday brings something new which I love.
Until you find something you love and look forward to getting up for each day, I suggest do not settle. Work is called work for a reason and we all endure good and bad moments. Since we deal with different kinds of people everyday you're just bound to have highs and lows. Just find something you love to do and stick to it.

Oh man... I sure do remember this episode. Gotta love Friends and Chandler's WENUS. LOL
I would say that I am not 100% happy with my job. It's not even about how much $$ I make. I mean, I would love it if I made more (who wouldn't) but I just don't feel challenged enough. I also don't feel appreciated. I do speak up and try to get people to take notice in my work but it doesn't seem to matter. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I am not 100% sure of what it is that I want to do in my life. I finished school and got my degree and now what? I have no clue!

I don't work haha.
But I'm happy with my current housewife work lol.
I used to worked for Japanese Immigration office as a translator (Japanese-Indonesian) before.
I quit the job, since I'm planning to conceive before I get 30.

Re: your job: like or dislike
I like the actual work, I love the people I work with. I just can't stand the comapany's attitude to the department I work for. We don't make them any actual profit so they don't budget for us.

Re: your job: like or dislike
I like my job because i work in a small company so i've lots of different roles! I do reception, accounts, sales, marketing, site maintenance etc.. But i'd love to become a make up artist one day. I know i'm a LONG way off it yet but i figure if i keep doig what i'm doing & practice my application techniques etc, surely i'll get better!

Re: your job: like or dislike
I used to like my job up until recently - its the politics I hate. The office cattiness, gossip, that I try oh so hard to not get involved in and yet someone seems to either drag me into it or tries to make my life miserable.
I used to be a fashion designer for 9 years and I loved it. But talk about cut throat and back stabbing! I never had a peaceful nights sleep so when I changed careers, it was a relief!
I like doing office work now - I'm just on a mission to find a larger company to work at and one where people behave more professionally.

Re: your job: like or dislike
I've been a licensed insurance agent for 22 years and I hate dealing with the public, I hate sitting all day, I hate hearing 6 phones ringing all day, I hate being the only "girl" in the office, I hate driving 25 miles each way to and from work, but my boss is fantastic! he lets me come in late in the summer and sometimes leave early and he pays me well. It helps greatly being appreciated! I need to win the lottery!!
