Re: Delicate decision: To circumcise or not?
for me, it would be a definate no. If you teach your son to clean himself properly at a young age there shouldn't be any problems. I don't believe in doing anything to my future child's body that he or she hasn't personally been asked about, and what boy in his right mind would choose to get circumsized once he was old enough to understand what was going to be done?
my sister's friend took her young child to Africa where her husband was from, and unfortunately they circumsized him quite badly - it's damaged him, and he never used to have a problem with getting dressed but now he screams and cries because it hurts to wear clothes over it. I'm sure there are many many pros but I see it the same way as I see cutting the tails of dogs down to a stump - it's a dangerous proceedure that is potentially going to cause much more harm than good. Unless I have been medically advised to do so, I would never ever subject my child to that. |

Re: Delicate decision: To circumcise or not?
i had to make that decision for my son and i decided no as well. I dont think the points they make are quite as valid for a male growing up in the US and most developed countries. I think it can desensitize the penis for the glans to always be exposed.
The biggest question i had from reading that is where do they get off implying women may have a preference for a circumsized penis over an uncircumsized one? Is this like a survey with a sample size of 1? It just sounds a little bizarre because in a sexual situation its not like a scared turtle or anything. that foreskin will be back very quickly. |

Both of my sons were not circumcised either. In Singapore, circumcision has never been routinely performed. It was always reserved for cases with medical indications like phimosis.

I had both of my sons circumsized and I didn't even think not to! My husband is and I just thought it was normal. If I have more boys, they will be too.

Re: Delicate decision: To circumcise or not?
well that is pretty much what the article said - that people do what most people around them do - whether that be culturally, geographically, whatever.
It's not like I'd judge anyone who chose to do that to their child, it's a very personal family decision but I myself couldn't be comfortable doing that without their permission. I'm a wuss and I wouldn't like to see my child in pain either, LOL |

The gynecologist doesn't usually do it, the pediatrician does. Unless, I guess he's a family practitioner. It was a pretty easy decision for us to make to decide to do it and I don't regret it.

The gynecologist was the one who had the consent form with him so i assumed he was the one who was going to be doing it. I mean i don't think he would have forms for a different doctor? rest assured it didn't get done although it got brought up like 3 different times during the actual birth even!. when would that normally be done? lets see my wife was getting sutured up and i went upstairs with the nurse and my son to the natal clinic where he got weighed and they did the apgar scoring. I think it was at least an hour or so till a doctor from the pediatric practice showed up.
