Getting a job you love is possible, but requires some effort and focus on your part. It is not going to fall into your lap.

Decide What Kind Of Job You Would Like To Do

This requires some amount of introspection. An ideal job should be one that you have a talent or educational qualifications or experience for. It should provide enough compensation to meet your basic needs and provide you with a little bit of comfort as well.
It should have growth prospects that are in sync with your ambitions. Are you a technical person or are you a people's person? There are many, many aspects to a job and you need to look at your dream job from all these aspects and see if they are what you are looking for.

Make A Strategic Plan

This plan should have all the components of the job you want. The different ways you would like to target the job, the key persons in the industry and if possible how you are going to try and approach them. The contact details of the organizations that you would like to target are also important.

Pass The Word Around

Start with the people you know, especially if they work in the field that you are looking for or are working in a related field. They will also help you fine tune your "ideal job" description and put you in touch with the actual market conditions in that line of work. The people you know may directly put you in touch with others who work in your "ideal" line of work.

Job Ads

Check the employment ads in the papers. If you are looking for a technical job, related industry publications may carry ads. If there is a particular organization that you have set your sights on, check on the company web site.

Training

By speaking to people in the field you will be able to gauge if you have the ideal qualifications, skills and experience. You may need to increase your marketability by updating your skills or training. Before you actually enroll in a training program, seek the opinion of at least a couple of people in the field to ensure that the course you take definitely has market demand.

Send In Your Resume

If you find that "your" organization has not advertised any vacancies either in the newspapers or their website, call them up and find out the contact details of the person who heads the department where you would like to work. Send in your resume. Try and make your passion for the job come across strongly.

Organizations are always looking for people who are passionate about their jobs, as they are likely to be top performers. Try to customize your resume so that it does not look like a standard resume that you are sending out to a hundred prospective employers.

Work Experience

Work experience is a big plus when selecting a candidate. If you do not have the necessary experience, you might consider working on a voluntary basis just to gain practical experience and knowledge. Working in this manner will also give you first-hand in-depth knowledge of the job.

Getting a job you've always dreamed about is a challenge. It will require strong motivation, time and resources and most importantly - focus. The effort you put into the job search is likely to be proportionate to the sense of achievement you will feel once you land the job.
