that link has some issues with it since it fails to reference the specific bill, HR 4623 that has caused all the controversy. and before it goes any further child pornography is exploitive of children's wrong and morally reprehensible.

the ACLU has some big problems today foremost the fact that one of its execs still has to face child pornography charges himself. I remember reading this elsewhere but there are issues with HR 4623 in that it addresses "virtual" pornography (ie no real children were involved) and tries to create new standards for what children can appear in. For example what i understand the photos that Miley Cyrus did recently would not be allowed. So in one sense i am surprised that the ACLU decided to get involved.

I was trying to do some additional research to see what exactly this is all about, but got bored so let me leave at least one link from the ACLU in their own words on their own issues with HR 4623.

Child Porn is such the hot button issue that even mention of it sends people into a furor. I think the points in the law may be more complex than what the link implies.

I did find out one other thing about HR 4623 from a statement from one of the Representatives that opposed the measure. The constitution grants the federal government jurisdiction over only three crimes: treason, counterfeiting, and piracy. One of the major objections to the bill was the federalization of crimes that are already handled by state and local laws.

It could be another "Micheal Moore" situation where they (the candidates) wouldn't be caught dead siding with the ultra left wing crazies like Mr Moore, Martin Sheen, Rosie O'Donnell...or the ACLU for that matter.

Yep, it's a known fact. It's really unfortunate that groups like this put people like Obama in a tough situation. This is why I hate politics. But that IS politics. What Obama should do is denounce his support from them. But we all know he won't do that. Hey, the man barley denounced is association with loony Reverend Wright and that took a while do.

The ACLU is always an easy target because they frequently take a position on issues that there is no way to justify to the average person. To take any position which seems like you are supporting child pornography just seems stupid to me especially in light of the fact the law will pass overwhelmingly and they (ACLU) have their own internal problems.

I do see a lot of parallels with the positions the ACLU takes and that of the NRA even thought the two groups couldn't be more different in their objectives. Both will hang onto largely opposed measures in support of their agenda.
