Susan Sarandon's Empty Promise?
interesting thing i read from The Weekly Standard. Does that make anybody wanna change their vote to McCain now? lol!
Quote:
Susan Sarandon: I'm Moving Away if McCain Wins
Susan Sarandon is doing the rounds promoting her latest movie, Speed Racer. She found time to talk to the Telegraph about the movie, her career, and U.S. politics: Her financial and vocal support for Barack Obama has not endeared her to some fellow Democrats.
"I've got a lot of flak from feminists who feel that I should be supporting Hillary Clinton, but I thought the whole point of feminism is that you're not supposed to be defined by gender," she says...
Always busy, Sarandon is about to start work on the romantic period drama The Colossus, but with the presidential election campaign being heatedly contested, she also has bigger things to consider.
"If McCain gets in, it's going to be very, very dangerous," she says.
"It's a critical time, but I have faith in the American people. If they prove me wrong, I'll be checking out a move to Italy. Maybe Canada, I don't know. We're at an abyss."
It's a valiant try by Ms. Sarandon, but the voters are unlikely to be fooled. We'll never know how many cast votes for George Bush in 2004, anticipating that Alec Baldwin, Robert Redford, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Moore, and many others would pack up and move to Canada. Alas, they failed to hold up their end of the deal.
Tell me Ms. Sarandon: how do I know that if I vote for John McCain, you'll keep your promise?

Re: susan sarandon's empty promise?
I find her and Tim Robbins to be highly irritating.

No, I will not vote Republican. The Republican party is openly hostile to transgendered people and gays. The Republican party has thrown us into financial peril on their own idealogical whim. The Democratic party could nominate a duck and I would vote for the duck.
To put things in perspective, try this link Cost of War. If after visiting this site you still want to vote for a Bush-McCain world so be it. I will not leave America like so many of the foolish Hollywood types. You maybe upset at Susan Sarandon et. al. but keep in mind many of them like Johnny Depp and Madonna already live outside the U.S.
I don't know what it will take to wake the nation up. If the new Scott McClellan book does not, we are doomed.
Sorry for the rant, I need to go back to my happy place now.

Tracy thanks for posting, I am just a little tired of all celebrity types that wish to share their political views with us. I like to be entertained by them, but don't give a whit about their personal political viewpoints.

Re: Susan Sarandon's Empty Promise?
I know, i could really care less what celebrities inputs are. Seems like they think their opinion qualifies for more than mine does

Re: Susan Sarandon's Empty Promise?
LOL!
This reminds me of Paris Hilton's involvement with P. Diddy's "Vote or Die" campaign. Not only did she not vote, she wasn't even registered!
Since she's still with us, I guess she didn't take that too seriously either! lol!

I have a high school friend out in California who works in the industry. He's always said, "Just because you have access to a microphone doesn't mean you have anything interesting or important to say". I wish the Hollywood types would take that to heart. Unfortunately these folks tend to use these issues as self promotion, the ones that are truly doing good, are not advertising what they do. So we can't lump them all in one basket.
BTW, the boys that do South Park continually slam Hollywood for just such excesses. I think that's why I like them!
Again, sorry for the rant. This political season has been way too long, and drawn out....

Re: Susan Sarandon's Empty Promise?
But shouldn't they be able to voice their opinions? They just happen to be in a position where someone will quote them or ask them publicly about it, but like you and I, I think celebrities should be able to voice their opinions too. We just don't have to care about it.

You have a valid point. But if I may quote one of Hollywood's blockbuster movie characters:
"With great power comes great responsibility." - Peter Parker, Spiderman.
This is what they need to keep in mind.

Yes, but when they use a public forum(as the MTV movie awards) to voice their political opinion, that's when I scoff at them. They are abusing their celeb-ism to push agendas. I tuned in to watch the movie awards and all I hear if Bush bashing. Lame
