Senator
Barack Obama is poised to clinch the Democratic presidential nomination on Tuesday night as he received support from a steady stream of prominent party officials, signaling that the grueling primary battle with Senator
Hillary Rodham Clinton is coming to a close.
The burst of announcements came as voters cast their ballots on Tuesday in
South Dakota and
Montana, the final stops in a 16-month primary campaign that wound through every state and American territory. Regardless of the results, Mr. Obama should receive enough delegates in those two states to assure him the nomination.
