John McCain evidently thinks the best defense is a good offense. So he cracked jokes aimed at himself last night on Saturday NIght Live (SNL) .

what do you think is he too old to be president?
i think at least some people think Reagan was asleep at the wheel during his last term.

John McCain joked that Americans need a president who is 'very, very, very old.'



WASHINGTON (AP) – John McCain is 71 years old, and his age has provided late-night comics with some easy punch lines. On "Saturday Night Live," he joined in.


"I ask you, what should we be looking for in our next president?" McCain said. "Certainly, someone who is very, very, very old."


The certain Republican presidential nominee appeared in a phony campaign ad in which he promised to put an end to runaway government spending, claiming he had never sought money for his home state, Arizona.
"Controlling government spending isn't just about Republicans or Democrats," he said. "It's about being able to look your children in the eye. Or in my case, my children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and great-great-great-grandchildren, the youngest of whom are nearing retirement."


"I have the courage, the wisdom, the experience and, most importantly, the oldness necessary," McCain said.

McCain is too old to be president because he is completly out of touch with reality. He is pro war and pro military - isn't this the mindset that has gotten the US into so much debt already? If he gets elected, then expect another 4 years of mindless spending on the Middle East and less regard for America's health care and education and poverty issues.

He's not too old.

Just because some people don't agree with him, they assume he's too old or doesn't know what he's doing/what he's talking about. Not true, imo.

Age isn't really a factor imho as long as he can survive 4 years... From what I've seen most president's look like they have aged 20 years after 4 years in office... lol Except Regan... Only his hair dresser knew?

For me it's not really his actual age, but the way his age makes him look. I know it's not as important that a president looks good. But it does speak to the world whether or not he looks, confident and dependable. IMO, McCain does not, because of his age.

I don't even support McCain, and I think this is silly, lol. Why is he too old? Do people think he more likely to die sooner? Anyone could die of anyTHING their second day in office. I do not agree with a lot of what he believes and I am not voting for him, but too old? Naaa.

So what if he's old? Doesnt mean he's gonna die any sooner than anyone else. Anybody remember JFK?

If the USA didnt have a pro military president during the whole 9-11 period, where would we be today? NOWHERE WITH NOTHING! If it wasn't for the nation retaliating against our enemies, more and more countries would abuse us and blow us all out of the water.

well he could have retired 10 years ago, so he's obviously very old.

I think its fairly ironic that there is a mandatory requirement age for Federal Employees yet Congress always exempts themselves from these laws.

McCain seems sharp from his age and just released his medical records. I think he is doing quite well for his age.

I personally don't think age will be a deciding factor in this election and no Democratic candidate would dare make a comment for fear of a backlash.
