Question Calling anyone with a green thumb

I absolutely don't have a green thumb, and really want to plant some flowers in various spots, and put hanging plants for the enclosed porch. Does anyone know of some really good plants that are easy to take care of, and need little to no sunlight? We get an ample amount of shade, so I at least know I can have plants/flowers that need direct or a lot of sunlight. TIA ya'll!

For inside the house or the porch try a Spider plant: they need some sun and of course weekly watering but they grow like trees and they aren"t a lot of work!!!

Re: Calling anyone with a green thumb

i am a big fan of fuschias... i think they make great hanging plants.
think about plants that take very little maintenance and look pretty good slightly overgrown too.
on the home, orchids are surprisingly easy to take care of. i mean, you really have to want to kill it and neglect it.

also, start reading up on bulb gardens... you have to plan ahead, but if you make the right choices you can have daffodils and orchids and narcissus year after year, and you dont even have to do very much, they pop up when they are ready, and you cut them back when they die, and the next group of bulbs will come up. we rented a house in my early 20's and spring/early summer had the best looking front yard, and we didnt do ANYTHING!
if you like scent, jasmine is great, takes alot to kill it, and spreads well.

but the EASIEST plant to grow of all time? i mean you can kill it and bring it back to life the next year easy? and comes in every color? and want more, just chop a branch off and stick it in the ground and watch that stick will grow EASY???
one word: geranium

Golden Pothos
(Scindaspus aureus)

This is the easiest and the most common plant, all you have to do is water this thing, and it grows so long, and big and pretty. It can be hung or in a pot on a plant stand, it can be inside or outside. I have tons of these, and you cant go wrong with them.

Re: Calling anyone with a green thumb

Geraniums are good but with all plants remember to dead head the dead stuff or they wont continue blooming. Fushias are great but some people have good luck with them and some dont I had them for years and loved them but I quit growing them because I got tired of the hanging baskets around my house.
Go to the store and look for stuff that can be put in the shade.
Have fun~~ I love my flowers now they are all so established and they just do what they want~~

Re: Calling anyone with a green thumb

Begonias are a shade loving plant. I also agree with dead heading flowers. Remove the old, dead ones to ensure continuous blooms. Unfortunately around my house I have so much sun that Begonias wouldn't do well for me, but they are a beautiful flower.

Easy to care flowers that need partial sun or full sun are petunias, geraniums, asters, and marigolds.

Hope this helps! Please let us know what you buy.

Go figure I just had the chance to get both of these for only $5 per flat too! Awesome blossom deal though, because they are pretty! And no worries about deer as we live on a major road and there's no deer anywhere around here.

I've always been curious and wanted one. My grandmother had one that was so long, she had it pratically wrapped around the kitchen LOL!
