Decorating from hell!!

I'm never decorating again.
my friend and i decided a few days ago to decorate my bedroom. spent ages stripping all the wallpaper off and ripping up the carpet. then we put up new wallpaper and painted over it. looked a bit bubbly but we figured it would dry out fine.

wrong. went in the next day and it looked like bubble wrap on the wall! so we had to take it all down again, then sand the wall and paint straight onto it. we also threw out all my old furniture to force me to buy new stuff and not make do with the scabby old things. now i cant find any decent furniture. and we tried to lay the carpet ourselves but we cut it too short so it looks terrible.

we've been arguing constantly and i keep randomly bursting into tears from all the stress! it really was a massive mistake.

and to top it all off while i was trying to cut the carpet with a stanley knife, the knife slipped and i cut my wrist so ended up in a&e all night and now im bandaged up and gonna be left with a scar that means i'll spend the rest of my life being asked what was so terrible that made me feel i had no way out. AND there is blood everywhere. all over my carpet, all over my nice newly painted walls. everywhere. meh. never ever ever again!!

I know I'm a bit too late with this advice but at least you'll know for next time - get as much stuff done by a professional as possible. The money it costs is without a doubt worth the stress you'll go through if you don't.

I'm sorry to hear about your wrist, hopefully it'll heal before you know it! as for the furniture, just keep looking, take your time, don't rush into anything.

just to make it even better, i called my work and left a message saying i'd cut my wrist so wouldnt be in for at least the rest of the week and would call to let them know when i would be back. then i got a letter in the post yesterday saying because i didnt turn up to work and didnt give them a reason for my absence they have no choice but to terminate my employment.

the woman i left the message with didnt pass it on and i've been sacked. i swear i will NEVER decorate again! i dont know whether to laugh or cry!

Take it easy sweetie...I know it's bad, but you can fix things slowly. Putting up wallpaper and carpet are not easy tasks. I bet what has happened to you has happened to many. Slowly you'll get back into the swing of things, and I am sure you'll tranform your bedroom into something beautiful. but now concentrate in giving yourself some time to cool off and go and enjoy yourself.

Take your mind off this, and get new perspective.

Ditto!!! They can't do that to you, it's not right. I'm glad you didnt hurt yourself too bad and you're gonna be ok.

About the furniture. I know there are Ikea stores all around the world. You can get some cute stuff there from decorating to furnishings. Good Luck!!

thanks everyone. i feel completely depressed! its the worst time of year to lose your job! i tried calling them and explaining what happened but she just said "well thats not the message we got" and sounded really mad so i'm gonna call the citizens advice beaureux and trade union and see what i can sort out. im not sure though cos i was on a 3 month trial before i got my permanent contract. urgh. 11 weeks into a 12 week trial and this happens! never mind though. everything happens for a reason and all that! xx
